Message from Major Wampler
This week many of us will gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving by enjoying good food, conversation, laughter, and football. My wish for you is to enjoy this time with your family, friends, and loved ones as the holiday season begins. Please be safe as you celebrate. If you have the opportunity help a neighbor less fortunate and in need during this season please consider doing so.
8th Division officers will be contributing to our community in several ways this holiday season. FIrst is the Annual Thanksgiving Outreach program when LMPD partners with Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church to serve and deliver food to senior citizens in need. Secondly, the Shop with a Cop program by purchasing clothing and toys for children who may not otherwise receive these items. Additionally, the 8th Division St. Mary's Center Christmas Party to celebrate Christmas with disabled members of the center. These are all great events where officers connect with members of the community in a thoughtful and impactful way which is often just as rewarding for our officers.
Meet Your Beat Officer Community Event
Please join us for an upcoming event Tuesday, November 28th at Southeast Christian Church to meet the officers serving you in the 8th Division. Several beat officers, detectives, and members of the command staff will be present to connect with the community and answer questions you may have. We look forward to the opportunity to spend some time getting to know you and other members of the community.

October 2023
Officer of the Month
Officer Robert Baker
Officer Robert Baker is a new officer who is completing his field training in the 8th Division. Officer Baker has shown a great willingness to learn, a high level of initiative, and unwavering dedication during his training which has led to him being recognized as the 8th Division's October Officer of the Month. At the end of October Officer Baker was dispatched to a call regarding a dog left in a vehicle. While trying to locate the owner of the vehicle Officer Baker learned the owner had multiple felony warrants. Officer Baker observed the wanted suspect walking his dog. When Officer Baker approached the suspect, he fled on foot leaving his dog behind who ran in the opposite direction. Officer Baker quickly caught up to the suspect who began to resist arrest. As Officer Baker was gaining control and placing the suspect in handcuffs the suspects pit-bull returned biting Officer Baker's calf. Officer Baker did not break concentration and finished placing the suspect into custody. The dog bite caused serious lacerations to his calf requiring a lengthy visit to the hospital and multiple stitches, but it did not cause him to waiver or dampen his spirits. The dog who was scared and acting on instinct was safely secured and unharmed. Officer Baker's bravery and dedication during this incident is just one example of why he was selected as the October Officer of the Month. Officer Baker will undoubtedly continue his current path of excellence and be a valued public servant for Louisville Metro for many years to come. Please help me congratulate Officer Baker for being selected as the 8th Division October Officer of the Month.

During the holidays many of us enjoy the hustle and bustle of the shopping and the excitement the season brings. Unfortunately, there are many children in our community who would not receive gifts. Every December, the Louisville Metro Police Foundation partners with LMPD to host the “Shop with a Cop” program. This makes a huge difference in the lives of many children across our community.
The eight police divisions of LMPD invite dozens of children in need to a holiday party like no other, providing each child with winter clothes and toys. For many, these gifts will be the only ones they receive.
To help fund this crucial endeavor, we’re asking for your financial support. Help us help the less fortunate children in our city, and together we can make a safer, happier Louisville.
