Veterans Day, Legislative Update, and Floyds Fork DRO Update
November 10th, 2023
First, I would like to wish a 248th Happy Birthday to my beloved United States Marine Corps. It has been the honor of my life to have earned the title ‘Marine’ and I wish all my brothers and sisters in arms a great day. Semper Fi!
Second, tomorrow is Veterans Day. To everyone who has ever served this county in uniform including my older brother (USMC) my father (US Navy), my Uncle (US Navy), my Grandfather (US Air Corps – predecessor to the Air Force), I want to sincerely thank you for your service. Although I am the only veteran on Council, there are others in the Greenberg administration (e.g. David James who served in the Army) and those in local office (Middletown Mayor Byron Chapman – US Army) who have served this country in the armed services. Please join me in thanking everyone who has served and pray for those who are serving to ensure we continue to live safely in our country.
Yesterday at the regular council meeting, we passed several pieces of legislation including:
- An anti-displacement ordinance that will review the impact on local residents when the government subsidizes new development – I supported this as I believe it is reasonable to know how a government subsidy could negatively impact local residents before it is made. Please note this will not be applicable to private investments.
- My review of the land development code passed to review the process of releasing bonds related to new development. This review will look at the process and amounts of the bonds to protect residents while also scrutinizing the process to potentially create efficiencies.
- We passed an amendment to the hours of operation for alcohol sales when Christmas and New Years land on a Monday. It will allow establishments on the prior Sunday to sell alcohol before noon. This is ONLY applicable to those times when New Years Eve and Christmas Eve is on Sunday.
