Our LOU Health COVID-19 Helpline experts answer top questions from you
Our LOU Health COVID-19 Helpline receives several calls each day from residents who need more information about vaccines, isolation guidelines and testing. We've put together responses to some of the most frequently asked questions from our helpline:
-
Where can I get a free COVID-19 test? You can pick up free tests at one of Metro Park's community centers. You can also receive free tests at home by ordering online at COVIDtests.gov.
-
Where can I get the updated booster? You can check with our Dixie or Newburg clinics, Walgreens, CVS or your health care provider. If you're uninsured, the CDC’s Bridge Access Program, provides free COVID-19 vaccines to adults without health insurance and adults whose insurance does not cover all COVID-19 vaccine costs. This program will end Dec. 31, 2024.
-
Are there any home vaccinations?: We are not aware of any health care providers that give COVID vaccinations to homebound individuals.
-
What are the isolation and quarantine guidelines?: If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home for at least five days and isolate yourself from others in your home. You are likely to be most infectious during these first five days. The helpline experts provide callers with isolation guidelines. Be sure to wear a high-quality mask if you must be around others at home and in public.
-
Vaccinations for children?: Our Dixie and Newburg clinics offer vaccines for children. Learn more information on our Vaccines for Children list.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to call the LOU Health COVID-19 Helpline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 502-574-8207.
Your questions answered: How do you obtain a copy of a birth or death certificate?
We do not have birth or death certificates of individuals at the Department of Public Health and Wellness. However, we do have applications to obtain them that can be picked up from the lobby of our 400 E. Gray St. location. After completing the application, you would mail it to the state of Kentucky’s Office of Vital Statistics (KYOVS) in Frankfort, Ky. for processing.
KYOVS also provides walk-in, online and phone options to request birth, stillbirth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates. Detailed information on how to obtain these certificates can be found at the Kentucky Certificate Purchase Options webpage or by calling toll free 800-241-8322.

Enjoy holiday dishes for a good cause
The Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS) is hosting a fundraiser, Magnificent Taste, featuring dishes from the RCS team from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the Edison Center, 701 W. Ormsby. Admission is $10.
Proceeds will go to the Holiday Line, a program that will bring some holiday cheer to a family or senior citizen. If you like to shop, you can adopt one or more families/seniors by taking a tag off the Holiday Line Tree at the Edison Center, starting Nov. 17. Please bring gifts to the Edison Center by Dec. 11.
If you prefer to provide funds for others to shop, you can provide money (cash/check) to RCS before Dec. 11. The RCS staff will then use the funds to shop for families who were not adopted and supplement adopted families with additional items.
