New Recycling Drop-Off Location on Aiken Road

Drop Off Center

We are pleased to announce that a new recycling drop-off location has been added at 13312 Aiken Road

Securing the location, preparing the site, and funding the project was no small task. Special thanks to the Louisville Metro Waste Management District, Councilmen Kramer, Winkler, Benson, and Piagentini, Smith Creek, and the Department of Public Works Streets & Roads and Solid Waste divisions.

No Dumping signage

The Department of Public Works and the Waste Management District maintain 14 unstaffed recycling locations, 3 staffed recycling locations, and a household hazardous waste drop-off location. All locations can be seen on this map. Most unstaffed locations now use the new style of dumpster to prevent losing recycling due to illegal dumping, which has shown success at other locations.

Important Reminders:

  • Recycle paper, cartons, plastic containers, glass bottles and jars, and metal containers.
  • Flatten all cardboard and crush containers when possible. This conserves space for more recycling.
  • Never purposely place items on the ground and please pick up any items that accidentally fall on the ground. Help us keep the site clean!
  • Take note of the openings for inserting recyclables - bring recycling in a container that can be "poured" into that slot.

Fall Leaves

Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste. Mulching not only returns vital nutrients to the soil, but experts say that it can help your grass grow even better the following year!

Never blow leaves into the street! If you see Street Sweeping signs posted on your street, please make sure to move your vehicle so any leaves that fell naturally on the street can be properly cleaned.

Leaf Drop-Off Sites

The Metro Public Works free leaf drop-off sites will be open Tuesday-Saturdays, November 7 through December 9. Drop-off will not be available on November 23 and 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only leaves will be accepted. Leaves can be loose, in paper/compostable bags, or reusable containers. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be taken back by residents.
