Hello Neighbors and Friends,
Autumn is in the air... Have you fully adjusted to the season? Some days I feel acclimated to fall, but on other days I feel summer is lingering about. However, according to my weatherwoman, we will soon stop feeling the heat and must pull out the coats from our closets. I'm ready, are you?
Speaking of being ready. How about a fall road trip? Check out the flyer below about a tour of Districts 7 and 17. The tour is this Saturday, October 14, 2023. We will depart from downtown in front of City Hall (601 W. Jefferson St.) at 10:00 a.m. You are invited to join me on this tour with some of my Council colleagues. We have been visiting each other's districts in an effort to understand all areas of our community. This tour will focus on highlights of District 7 and an adjacent district, District 17 (Anchorage, Goose Creek, Fincastle, Murray Hill, parts of Middletown; Chamberlain Place, Springhurst, etc.).
During the tour, we will see the Bull Run development off Herr Lane, make a stop at the construction site of the VA Hospital, drive by TopGolf, and stop for lunch at Joe's Older Than Dirt Restaurant. The travel through District 17 will include a stroll through Tom Sawyer Park (by bus), a drive by the Ford Plant, a quick ride through Anchorage, and a pit stop at Berrytown. The tour is expected to end at 1:00 p.m.
If you would like to join us, call my office at (502) 574-1107 and leave your name, address, telephone number and the number in your party. I will contact you to verify your attendance by Thursday and give you more details. The tour is FREE, and transportation will be provided by TARC.

I have one item on the agenda - an ordinance to allocate $16,667 for streetlights along Elmwood Ave. (40207). The expense includes seven LED light fixtures, a one-time conversion fee of $260, and $161.98 per month (current rate; subject to change per PSC future rate filings and surcharges) for five years. The ordinance was approved by the Appropriations Committee unanimously I anticipate it passing without objection on Thursday.
The Office of Housing and Community Development works to increase the supply of affordable housing. Division staff work with developers and housing nonprofit organizations to expand the housing opportunities available to low-to-moderate income residents.
My Louisville Home is a comprehensive housing strategy that aims to create and preserve 15,000 affordable housing units unveiled by Mayor Craig Greenberg on Oct. 2, 2023. This strategy, the first of its kind in Louisville, outlines significant investment and policy actions by Louisville Metro Government to spur housing development across the city.
Mayor Greenberg released a comprehensive plan to increase housing throughout our city. Please access the reports below and become familiar with his vision.
The full housing strategy is now available online, and the city is soliciting public feedback through Friday, Nov. 3. A final version of the plan will be released on Dec. 1.

The festivities begin at 11 a.m. in Brown Park, located at the corner of Kresge Way and Browns Lane, next to Baptist Healthcare. Free parking is available at the doctors building across from the hospital. Promptly at 11:30 a.m. the trick-or-treating begins at the pavilion, where the children and families continue forward, meandering through the walking path of the park collecting goodies. On January 1, 2019, a new Comprehensive Plan, called Plan 2040, went into effect. As a resident of District 7 (or any district in Louisville), it is important to review the Comprehensive Plan if you are interested in development that is proposed for the neighborhood. The Comprehensive Plan is the guidepost for all development, and the Planning Commission must use it as one of the guiding principles and tools for making decisions regarding the approval or denial of a neighborhood development project.
Read The Comprehensive Plan (Plan 2040)
The Comprehensive Plan is representative of over 6,000 voices, including Metro staff, an advisory committee, and resident volunteers. The Advisory Committee, made up of diverse representatives from neighborhood and community organizations as well as development and business interests, finalized its recommended goals, objectives, and policies on February 21, 2018.
On April 16, 2018, the Planning Commission recommended the Comprehensive Plan for approval. The document was then reviewed by the Metro Council as well as 12 local municipalities with zoning authority for formal adoption. Those 12 local municipalities are: Anchorage, Douglass Hills, Graymoor-Devondale, Hurstbourne, Indian Hills, Jeffersontown, Lyndon, Middletown, Prospect, Shively, St. Matthews, and St. Regis Park.
Louisville Metro Council livestreams all of its regular meetings and committee meetings on Facebook Live.
