On Tuesday September 19th, Major Grissom is hosting “Coffee with a Cop” at Haraz Coffee House (1541 Highland Ave). No agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.
Olmsted Parks Conservancy (OPC) is developing a master plan for its newest park, Beargrass Preserve. The future site of Beargrass Preserve is located adjacent to Louisville's Alta Vista neighborhood, Cherokee Park, and the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Currently, this 25-acre site is home to scenic wooded trails, a grassy hilltop, limestone cliffs, and a section of Beargrass Creek's middle fork.
For years, this property was part of the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary's campus and was purchased by OPC in 2021. Now, the dedication of Beargrass Preserve brings with it an unprecedented opportunity. Louisville Asset Building Coalition is beginning to recruit volunteers for their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for the coming tax season. This program is completely free for families who make under 60,000 and will help keep money in their pockets. LABC needs help with greetings clients, filing tax returns, and quality review. As a result of unforeseen issues with the subgrade settling in the area of the new pickleball courts metro Parks has decided to close the back two pickleball courts until repairs can be made. All other courts in the complex will remain open for use. Please be aware that though courts are open for use, there is still work remaining to get that project fully complete. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
We had nearly 900 participants attend the Pop-Up Drop-Off event on Saturday, August 26! Most participants brought electronic devices to recycle, documents to shred, and large items to dispose. This was the first event collecting gently used shoes for WaterStep and 160 lbs of shoes were collected - ensuring about 50 people will have safe water to drink!

The Crescent Hill Community Council is sponsoring a “Curbing Gun Violence in Jefferson County Competition”. A $6,100 prize (and possibly climbing) will be awarded for the best new idea, or a new twist on an old idea to curb gun violence in Jefferson County.
