Assuming they fit, Metro Public Works plans to have ten dumpsters at the new site.
Construction has begun on a new recycling center just outside our district at 13312 Aiken Road. This location will serve as a replacement for the Urton Lane Recycling Center that was closed early last year. This will be an unstaffed location that will accept paper, cardboard, cartons, plastic, glass, metal cans, foil pans, foil wrap, etc. All these materials will go in dumpsters (serviced daily) to be sorted later at a processing facility. The goal is for this facility to begin accepting items early this fall. For more information on recycling locations, what's accepted, etc., click here.
Every week, Metro Planning and Design Services (PDS) issues a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These typically include changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, landscape plans, and more. There are two cases in this week's report involving property in District 17. One is a Category 2B review for a proposed office and grocery store at 200 Juneau Drive. Requests for a conditional use permit, landscape waiver, and variance listed in the report are also connected to this case. You can see the current plan here. The other case is a waiver to allow a changing image sign at 9800 Westport Road to be closer than 300 feet to a residential area. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the case manager listed in the report.
I wanted to give you an update on the 'Another Way' program I've mentioned a few times previously. As you may recall, this program involves Goodwill employees canvassing highly trafficked areas known for panhandling to offer individuals the opportunity to work (picking up litter, etc.) and get lunch. In addition, they visit Goodwill's Opportunity Center where they get help addressing barriers and connecting to internal and external resources.
Over the last two months alone, 382 new individuals have been served. This includes 37 people gaining full-time employment (with benefits), 39 finding temporary or permanent housing, 18 being transported to treatment, and 60 receiving IDs. I continue to be amazed at the impact this program is having and look forward to sharing more on this in the near future.
The Land Development & Transportation Committee, a subcommittee of the Planning Commission, will hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 14 to review a revised district development plan for property located at 2819 N. Hurstbourne Parkway. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. and continue until all cases are heard. As I mentioned in my newsletter a couple of weeks ago, this proposal would permit volleyball courts and a restaurant at that address. Please contact Jonathan Lawler at jonathan.lawler@louisvilleky.gov with any questions or comments.
