August 2023 Officer of the Month
Officer Stephanie Spaulding is one of the most dependable and hardest working officers in the 3rd Division. Along with her outstanding work ethic, she is hands down one of the most organized officers on the department. Officer Spaulding is the 3rd Division District Resource Officer, and she juggles many responsibilities and tasks. Most divisions have two District Resource Officers, but in the 3rd Division she is currently managing things on her own. She is in charge of managing the safety plans for all the schools within our division (one of the largest divisions on the department). Officer Spaulding is the Administrative Lieutenants right hand woman and assists him and the Division Major with many tasks that help the 3rd Division run smoothly, while at the same time constantly fielding calls from beat officers who need information or advice. She also works closely with code enforcement to tackle the many problems we are faced with such as trespassing waivers, vacant/condemned buildings, and the many homeless camps that pop up and move frequently. Another important role she fills is building a close partnership with the 3rd Division Advisory board and with the community to accomplish great events like our Shop with a Cop program. This program provides Christmas for families who otherwise may not be able to provide for their children, during what should be one of the happiest times of the year for them. Last but not least, she also coordinates with the advisory board to plan, set up, and carry out our National Night Out, which is one of the biggest community partnership building events of the year for police agencies across the country. This year the planning for National Night Out was extremely challenging. The venue that she had booked for the event fell through last minute and she had to come up with alternate arrangements for not only the 3rd Division National Night Out but the 4th Division's as well. Officer Spaulding is very deserving of being "Officer of the Month." Please congratulate her as you see her in the community.

3rd Division Crime Trends
Over the summer there has been a pattern of robberies happening in the 3rd Division. A suspect has been targeting parking lots of apartment complexes in the early morning hours. We have a plan to apprehend those involved, but in the meantime ALWAYS make sure you are aware of your surroundings, especially when getting in or out of your vehicle.
In addition, vehicles continue to be stolen from parking lots. Please make sure you are not leaving your keys in your vehicle and consider purchasing a steering wheel locking device to help keep your vehicle secure.
I want to stress the fact that we are aggressively targeting the hotspots where these crimes are occurring. We will continue to be present in your neighborhoods and near your businesses to help keep you safe. Officers are patrolling the neighborhoods looking for individuals engaging in this activity and our detectives are following up on leads to identify the individuals responsible.
If you notice any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please call our non-emergency line at 502-574-7111 to have an officer respond or call 911 if it is an emergency.
If you have any information on these crimes, you can always call our anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
