Hello Neighbors and Friends,
During the Metro Council Committee meetigs last week, Councilmembers adopted resolutions and ordinances and hosted discussions with the Louisville Metro Housing Authority director and several residents from the Riverport Landings, 2900 William Weathers, and the Park Duvalle senior housing complexes. Residents testified about the poor living conditions, including mold, 20-year-old filthy carpets, trash pickup, and disrespectful residential staff. Due to time constraints, another meeting will be scheduled to discuss the issues further and talk with the Louisville Metro Codes & Regulations director.
The request from the City of Graymoor-Devondale to annex the contiguous Louisville Metro tract of land within the Bull Run townhomes development was approved by the Government Oversight and Audit Committee. It will appear on Thursday’s Council Meeting Consent Calendar. That means the annexation will be approved without dissent unless one of the Councilmembers asks that it be moved from the Consent Calendar and placed on Old Business for further discussion. Once the Metro Council approves this annexation, the entire Bull Run project and all future road fund and insurance premium taxes will be under the jurisdiction of the City of Graymoor-Devondale.
Thursday’s Council meeting should be pretty routine, and we should wrap things up with little fanfare. Speaking of routine, school starts Wednesday for JCPS, so as teachers are preparing their classrooms before Wednesday, including purchasing school supplies, decorating bulletin boards, and arranging seating assignments, think about how you can be of assistance to them and help our students succeed this year. Teachers could use more adults to volunteer in their classrooms. They could also use our help with school supplies. Purchase some pens, pencils, paper, and other essential classroom materials and drop them off at a school near you or be sure to keep your children well-stocked throughout the year. While you’re at it, why not call your neighborhood school and volunteer? I did! On tomorrow morning, around 7:15 a.m., I will volunteer at Wilder Elementary to welcome the car riders and wish them a successful school year. I am super excited and plan to lay out my “school” clothes the night before in anxious anticipation.
Lastly, please keep in mind the various start times for each school and pack your patience until the kinks are worked out. Drive responsibly, prepare your child for success by using inspiring and affirming words in your conversations, and lead by example. We’re all in this together, so let’s do our part to support JCPS and its teachers, administrators, and students.

I ran into one of the City of St. Matthew's finest - Colonel Barry Wilkerson, Chief of Police. We chatted a while and I met his lovely family. However, I missed the opportunity to throw a ball to dunk him in the dunking booth. That fun event happened the next day. I heard citizens dunked him several time. What a good sport for a great cause!
Here I am with Andy Armadillo, the beloved Texas Roadhouse mascot. The armadillo mascot has been creating smiles since the establishment of the first Texas Roadhouse restaurant in February of 1993. The mascot lived up to expectations of making people smile by busting a move - cutting a rug - dancing up a storm - at the Wilt Week event in the City of St. Matthews.
Shout out to Texas Roadhouse for donating 100% of its proceeds from all four restaurants during last Tuesday's dining experiences. They announced a $13,500 donation to the Louisville Metro Police Department Foundation to support the ongoing recovery of police officer Nickolas Wilt. Texas Roadhouse, YOU ARE AWESOME!

This picture shows the St. Matthews Fire Department's demonstration of a rescue mission for someone who might be trapped in a burning car.
It was fascinating to watch as the firemen clawed their way through the heavy doors. They worked as a team and wasted no time getting inside the car to "rescue" the pretend accident victim.
The citizens of St. Matthews and the surrounding home rule cities can rest assured that the brave men and women of the fire department are well trained, dedicated, and always ready to render aid when and where needed.
Thanks, SMFD, for your service!

Below: In full force were the Louisville Metro Police Department's newest Police Academy recruits at the Peterson-Dumesnil House for the Division 5 National Night Out. These fine men and women in blue mingled with citizens and pitched in where needed during the event. From set-up to break-down, they were on the scene ready to serve. LMPD's future is very bright!
Thanks to the hundreds of people who attended and donated to this year's EggFEST. Last year's annual event raised A RECORD $35,263.18 for Kentucky Harvest and A Recipe to End Hunger. The amount raised this year will be announced during an official check presentation in the next week.
Thanks also to all the companies, organizations, and individuals who participated in the event by cooking wonderful food and providing samples. The food was delicious and the fellowship from table to table and tent to tent was fantastic. The EggFEST is always a great time. Mark your calendar for the 2024 event - it's not too early to get ready for the fun!
Congratulations to the new champion of the Chopped Competition, Chef Serge Katz, FlavaVille Food Truck. Henry Wesley, Chef, 8UP, was a former two-time winner of the chopped competition and presented well once again this year. The other fabulous chef in the competition was Jarrod W. Prince with the Copper Kitchen Food Truck.
CONGRATULATIONS, AND THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN! Your incredible work benefitted a lot of people experiencing hunger.

The Department of Codes & Regulations Property Maintenance Division has a long history of involvement helping maintain Louisville's diverse neighborhoods. We are proud that over the years, our goals have remained consistent: To help prevent the deterioration of our neighborhoods by improving property maintenance and use and to maintain the highest safety and sanitation standards for the many residential and non-residential properties in our community.
The Property Maintenance Code:
- Establishes a minimum maintenance standard for such elements as basic equipment, light, ventilation, heating, sanitation and fire safety.
- Fixes responsibility among owners and occupants for following the code.
- Regulates the use of existing structures and premises.
- Provides for administration, enforcement and penalties.

Property Maintenance Division is committed to enforcing the Metro's Property Maintenance, Nuisance and Zoning Codes, which delineates the minimum health, safety and land use standards for all properties. We also help enforce the "Smoke Detector" section of the Fire Prevention Code. Fair but vigorous enforcement of these codes is one of the best ways to ensure that all properties within Louisville Metro are safe, sound and sanitary. However, it's a job that can't be done without your help.
We all want to make our community better, safer and a healthier place to live and work. With your help, we can build a partnership of pride and concern for our community.

On January 1, 2019, a new Comprehensive Plan, called Plan 2040, went into effect. As a resident of District 7 (or any district in Louisville), it is important to review the Comprehensive Plan if you are interested in development that is proposed for the neighborhood. The Comprehensive Plan is the guidepost for all development, and the Planning Commission must use it as one of the guiding principles and tools for making decisions regarding the approval or denial of a neighborhood development project.
Read The Comprehensive Plan (Plan 2040)
The Comprehensive Plan is representative of over 6,000 voices, including Metro staff, an advisory committee, and resident volunteers. The Advisory Committee, made up of diverse representatives from neighborhood and community organizations as well as development and business interests, finalized its recommended goals, objectives, and policies on February 21, 2018.
On April 16, 2018, the Planning Commission recommended the Comprehensive Plan for approval. The document was then reviewed by the Metro Council as well as 12 local municipalities with zoning authority for formal adoption. Those 12 local municipalities are: Anchorage, Douglass Hills, Graymoor-Devondale, Hurstbourne, Indian Hills, Jeffersontown, Lyndon, Middletown, Prospect, Shively, St. Matthews, and St. Regis Park.
