Greetings District 8!
I am excited to re-launch the District 8 newsletter after a brief hiatus as former Councilperson Cassie Chambers-Armstrong transitioned to the State Senate (congratulations!) and our team mounted the steep learning curve for serving effectively on Metro Council.
I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve you and the vibrant, diverse neighborhoods that make up our district on the Louisville Metro Council. I grew up in the Upper Highlands, biked around Atherton, shopped on Bardstown Road, played tennis in Tyler Park, did research at the Bon Air library, and it’s exciting to my wife Theresa and I that our children have the opportunity to do the same.
The job of government is to convene people and institutions, to invest in our common aspirations, to protect us in times of crisis, and to balance the needs of the present with the interests of the future. We can and should expect government to be excellent at its job.
I bring to this role an entrepreneurial mindset and the experience of running a diverse range of organizations, spanning community, business, education, non-profit, government, and academia. These experiences have taught me the value of listening to those closest to the challenges we face and involving them in crafting effective solutions.
You can expect from our office that we will listen, respond quickly, and communicate clearly about the work we are doing inside and outside of Metro government. We will look to the data and to national best practices as we shape our work. Plus Dad jokes. My love for dad jokes will be soon be apparent.
