Message from Major Wampler
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer with their family and friends. The 8th Division has been busy patrolling our neighborhoods, parks, and business areas to ensure everyone is safe. Crime in the division has trended downward over the past month. I contribute this downward trend to the diligence of our officers and the help of our residents who are reporting suspicious activity and following crime prevention techniques. I have two announcements below I would like to share with you for oppurtunities to connect with the officers serving your community.
The Louisville Metro Police Department has joined the Nextdoor social media platform. We will be sharing information about crime trends, crime prevention tips, and community events on Nextdoor. 8th Division Detective Sergeant Roderick Beasley will be posting information to residents of the 8th Division and managing posts from the division. To join Nextdoor please click the link below.
Please join us for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Warren Walker Park located at 501 Greathouse Lane. This year's event will be the largest yet for the 8th Division. It will feature displays from several LMPD units, federal and local partners, and local businesses. There will be activities for children, a live band, free food, and opportunities to meet your public servants. A flyer for National Night Out is included in the newsletter below highlighting several of the partners participating this year.

June 2023
Officer of the Month
Officer Jonathan Noe
Officer Jonathan Noe is the June 8th Division Officer of the Month. Officer Noe responded to a report of suspects trying to open car doors in an 8th Division neighborhood. Once in the area he located three suspects who fled on foot when he stopped to speak with them. Officer Noe was able to apprehend one of the suspects and charge him with crimes related to vehicle break-ins. The quick actions of Officer Noe stopped a group of thieves who were looking to victimize residents in our neighborhoods by breaking into and stealing vehicles. Please join me in congratulating Officer Noe for his exceptional work and being selected as the June Officer of the Month.

8th Division Crime Trends
Most crimes in the 8th Division have trended downward. The below chart lists the number of incidents for several offense categories. The chart compares the current 28 day reporting period to the previous 28-day reporting period.
The most common crimes in the division are still property crimes, especially when domestic violence related incidents are removed. I believe the sharp decrease in property crimes is connected to residents using crime prevention techniques to protect their property. The best way to minimize the chance of becoming a victim is to practice crime prevention techniques such as locking doors and not leaving valuable items in vehicles.
As always please call the police if you observe suspicious activity. Remember if something appears wrong trust your instincts and let us know. The call you make could help us catch one of the criminals who are active in our division just as Officer Noe did when he responded to a report from a concerned resident.
There are breakdowns and maps below of theft from motor vehicles, motor vehicle thefts, and burglaries for the previous 28-day reporting period. (6/19/2023 to 7/16/2023)
