Meeting Notice:

Reapportionment Commission meets on June 21

Commission accepting public comment on proposed redistricting of Jefferson County Commissioner Fiscal Court Districts

Louisville (June 19, 2023) – The Reapportionment Commission charged with drawing Fiscal Court Commissioner districts will meet on Wednesday, June 21, at 1:00 p.m.  The meeting will be held at Historic City Hall, located at 601 West Jefferson Street, in the 1st floor conference room.

The Commission is comprised of three Jefferson County residents and a non-voting County Clerk representative.  The Commission is tasked to reapportion the county into three districts.  The reapportionment commissioners are Chris Boone (District A), Chair Wanda Mitchell Smith (District B), and Jim Hughes (District C).

Within sixty days of the appointment of the commissioners, the commissioners must file a written report with Metro Council and the County Clerk.  That report will recommend district boundary lines.  Within sixty days of the receipt of the report, Metro Council shall adopt or amend the report by ordinance.

The Commissioners held an initial meeting on May 31 and have begun work to evaluate the existing commissioner districts and consider new districts.  The public is invited to attend the June meeting to comment on the proposed new map, which will be available at the meeting.

Speakers may sign up to speak beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Historic City Hall, 601 W. Jefferson Street, in the 1st floor conference room. Sign ups will be open for thirty minutes and will close at 1:00 p.m. Each speaker will be given three minutes to comment on the proposal.

The meeting is open to the public. The public may enter City Hall using the Sixth Street entrance.  Anyone needing assistance may enter City Hall from the Jefferson Street entrance.
