FAN FAIR RETURNS FOR 2023, PROVIDING FREE FANS TO PEOPLE IN NEED
Eighth annual giveaway to distribute donated electric fans to seniors, people with disabilities
Louisville, KY. Fan Fair is back in 2023. The annual event – sponsored by the Louisville Metro Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens (OADC) and the Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency (KIPDA) – distributes hundreds of donated electric fans to local seniors and people with disabilities, helping them keep their homes cool and comfortable during the summer months.
The fans have been donated by local businesses, community organizations, and residents, and will be distributed at Fan Fair – scheduled for Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Edison Center (701 W. Ormsby Ave.).
Fans will be available at no cost for seniors 60 and older – as well as for individuals with documented, physical disabilities – on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of one fan per qualified individual.
To receive a free electric fan, you must:
Be 60 years or older OR have documentation verified by a physician of a physical disability
Be a resident of Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble or Bullitt counties
Provide proof of address and age
Fan Fair began in 2016, when KIPDA and OADC joined forces to come up with a creative solution to the numerous calls they received requesting heat relief.
"Fan Fair is an exciting event and show of support in our community,” said Brittney Baines, Aging and Disability Resource Center Coordinator for KIPDA. “This event brings out providers and partners to support seniors and disabled citizens in our area who may find it challenging to cool their homes during the summer months. It is the goal of KIPDA to make this challenge a breeze for them."
“I am thrilled to be leading another Fan Fair,” said OADC Coordinator Alli Woosley. “Each year this event shows me just how committed our community is to providing some relief to our most vulnerable citizens. Our community partners have really stepped up – without them, this event would not be possible.”
In addition to the fan giveaway, a resource fair will be held at the Edison Center, providing attendees with basic information about local resources. Participating vendors include CenterWell Senior Primary Care, JenCare Senior Medical, United Healthcare, AARP Kentucky, Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development Agency (KIPDA), Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS), Senior Medicare Patrol and many other community organizations.
The Louisville Metro Police Department will also be collecting prescription drugs in order to properly and safely dispose of them, and Mayor Craig Greenberg will be on hand to meet with constituents and enjoy the event.
WLKY is serving as the media partner, providing both on-air and online advertising, and serving as one of the donation drop-off sites. Lowe’s also provided support by allowing the purchase of some fans at cost.
