Metro Council District 18 Office has received a request from the Metro Boards and Commissions to appoint one District 18 Urban Service District resident as a board member. This member must live in the District 18 Urban Service District portion of our Council District to serve on the Urban Services District Board.

"Board Purpose:
The purpose of this board is to establish tax rates inside the urban services district.

The power of the board is to establish appropriate tax rates annually to be applied to health insurance premiums and personal property within the District.  The Metro Council shall, by ordinance, establish limits or parameters within which the Board may set the said tax rates.  The Board shall receive the income derived from the differential in tax rate applicable in the District with respect to personal property, health insurance premiums, or both, and shall contract with the Metro Government to pay all sums collected to the Metro Government, in return for the provision of services by the Metro Government within the District which services are in addition to services performed by the Metro Government in the remainder of the county.

Meetings:

The USD board meets once a year—usually around Labor Day after the state has certified property values and the Metro Council has adopted new year tax rates.  The Board adopts the incremental USD taxes (other than real property) such as personal property, health insurance, and bank deposit premiums to provide three primary USD services—Fire protection, garbage/recycling/yard waste collection, and street lights.  The Board has no other duties.

Trash for Cash Program

In partnership with the Louisville Mayor's Office, Metro Public Works, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), Brightside is launching a new program aimed at keeping our city clean while simultaneously supporting local non-profits.

Trash for Cash allows youth-serving non-profits in Jefferson County to raise between $300-$500 for their organization by agreeing to clean up 3-5 pre-designated miles of roadway within a 4-month time span. Brightside and Public Works will provide the selected groups with supplies for their cleanup(s) as well as trash disposal afterward.

To be eligible, your non-profit must serve youth in Louisville in some capacity and must provide documentation of 501c3 status. Applications opened May 1st and will close on May 15th. Selected non-profits will be notified thereafter and will be given further details and instructions.
