A Message From Andrew

city seal

Spring is most definitely in the air!  Flowers blooming, birds singing, evening light persisting after dinner has been eaten and cleaned up.  My family usually takes the opportunity of the season to get out in our yard to do a spring cleaning, removing the remaining leaves and debris that have collected up against the fence and under the bushes since the previous fall.

I also want to take a minute to remind everyone that this is a great time of year to make sure we are using all the tools at our disposal to keep the neighborhoods of D9 clean and in good condition.  For the past number of years, the District 8 and 9 Council offices have combined resources to underwrite the cost of having a graffiti removal service on retainer throughout the year.  So please notify our office by phone or email when you see graffiti in our neighborhood so we can have it removed.  The best way to keep graffiti out of our neighborhoods and off our signs, poles and buildings is to remove the graffiti as soon after it is tagged as possible.

Along those same lines, following the continuous salting and plowing our roadways during the winter season, please notify our office of any significant potholes that have formed on our roads, so we can contact Public Works to have them filled.  In some cases, the road in question will be on the calendar for resurfacing during 2023 so filling potholes is not efficient or cost effective, but in most cases, we will need to have public works patch the holes so we can bridge the time to the next scheduled resurfacing of that road.

I also want to say that litter is totally lame and takes away from the beauty of our homes, businesses and streetscapes.  If you see litter in the gutter or along the sidewalk, please stop and pick it up.  It may not seem like it makes a difference, but if each of us commits to picking up a little trash, that combined commitment can go an awfully long way.

And finally, our office is sponsoring multiple neighborhood, clean up opportunities this Spring.  We will be partnering with Operation Brightside for the annual neighborhood cleanups along Frankfort Avenue and in the Heart of St. Matthews on April 15th.  We will be partnering with the Kentucky Waterway Alliance, Beargrass Creek Alliance, Brightside, Olmsted Parks and MSD to sponsor a creek sweep along Beargrass Creek on Earth Day, April 22nd.  And we will be partnering with Metro Parks to clean up Champions Park at the corner of Zorn Avenue and River Road on April 29th.  We will have more information about each of these events in this and future newsletters.

Stilz Avenue Rightsizing Project

Louisville Metro Government is gathering feedback for the proposed rightsizing on Stilz Avenue, between Frankfort Avenue and Lexington Road. Please review the proposed plans and provide your comments by clicking the link below.

  • Where: Stilz Avenue, between Frankfort Ave (US 60) and Lexington Rd (US 60A)
  • What: Reduce pedestrian crossing along Frankfort Ave at Stilz Ave and add a bike lane along part of Stilz Ave
  • When: May/June 2023
  • Who: Louisville Metro Government
  • Why: Rightsize the corridor at the same time as regular maintenance.

Please review both preliminary designs and provide feedback using the links below.

Stilz Avenue: Bike Lane East Side

- Limits removal of on-street parking to stretch along the Water Co. property
- Connects to existing bike lane
- Offers a consistent roadway geometry

Stilz Avenue:  Bike Lane West Side

- Limits removal of on-street parking to stretch along the Water Co. property
- Offers a "climbing lane" for steepest elevation change on Stilz Ave
- Shifts the street centerline to allow for bike lane

Click HERE to provide feedback on the Preliminary Designs.

The public comment window closes on April 28, 2023.
