Marks Feed Store

District 22 Welcomes

Mark's Feed Store Restaurant

The Fern Creek Community Association and Chamber of Commerce, along with District 22 Councilman Robin Engel, welcomed the new Mark's Feed Store Restaurant to our community on March 12th. This is the fifth location to be opened in the Louisville area.  Building on the Louisville tradition, Mark’s Feed Store is expanding their acclaimed menu to the Fern Creek area. The new location, 6501 Bardstown Road in Louisville, KY,

“We are so excited to bring Mark’s Feed Store to Fern Creek.  We love to be part of our neighborhoods and have had an overwhelming request to come to the Fern Creek area.  So here we are with the same great food, just as our guests know it but with a new building and friendly staff for the Fern Creek neighborhood to call their own.” states Mary Stebbins, Director of Operations based in Louisville, KY. The restaurant opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The new restaurant will employ approximately 120 local residents.

Since 1988 Mark’s Feed Store has been delivering on their motto: “Friendly Folks Servin’ Famous Bar-B-Q”. Offering a cooking style handed down from a 3rd generation master from Eastern Kentucky. Only the finest quality pork, brisket and chicken are used, which are slowly smoked using real hickory wood, then lightly topped with Mark’s signature bar-b-q sauces. Many of the menu selections are “one of a kind” trademarked items and are carefully guarded secrets! They include award-winning BBQ, Ribs, Honeywings™, Onion Straws, Sweet Fried Corn, Bird-in-a-Nest™, and Homemade Buttermilk Pie! It is no wonder Mark’s Feed Store has been voted “BEST OF LOUISVILLE” for both Bar-B-Q and Ribs for no less than 9 times.

Grab your friends, co-workers and family. Head on out to Mark’s Feed Store for the finest “QUE” in Kentucky and help us celebrate their grand opening!

Mark’s Feed Store is a recognized hometown Louisville, KY favorite in casual dining. Mark’s Feed Store offers a fun, down home casual atmosphere and a distinct variety of southern Bar-B-Q offerings with 5 restaurants, 4 in Louisville, KY and 1 in New Albany, IN.  TRIANGLE PARK UPDATE

Triangle Park, which is located at the intersection of Bardstown Road and Fern Creek Road, is currently undergoing some repair work to the clock and vapor lights that shine upon the American flag.  The District 22 Office is working with the Louisville Metro Public Works Dept. to correct operational problems.  The District 22 Office, in partnership with the Brightside organization, supports and maintains the park to keep it clean, cut and beautiful in appearance throughout the year.  We wish to thank all the volunteers and veterans who help keep the park litter free, and to Fern Creek Chamber member, Mark Yates with Yates Electric and Boy Scout Troop #506 for their commitment to keeping the American flag flying in good condition.  A new American flag will be placed on the flagpole once the inground lights have been repaired to shine upon the flag at night in accordance with federal guidelines and protocol as they pertain to our American flag.  Thank you for your patience as we work to correct these issues.

FERN CREEK TRADITIONAL HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS CLASSIC CINEMA FREE FILMS

Free Films include Casablanca, West Side Story,

High Noon, Jaws, and Rear Window

Classic Cinema at the Creek debuts Louisville’s first student-run movie theatre.  Classic Cinema at the Creek, a student-run movie series open to the public, will show classic movies in the newly-renovated Alumni Auditorium at Fern Creek Traditional High School most Thursdays. The series premiered on Thursday, March 15, 2012 with showings of Annie Hall at 3:00 p.m., Bringing up Baby at 5:00 p.m. and Casablanca at 7:00 p.m. The Classic Cinema at the Creek screenings are free and open to the public. A donation to the Fern Creek Alumni Scholarship Fund is requested.

Volunteers from the Tiger Pride Band will staff a concession stand and members of the Classic Cinema Club will run the theatre. The Fern Creek High School Alumni Association is sponsoring the program.

“As a Communications, Media and the Arts School, this is a natural fit,” said Brian Miller, the sponsor of the Classic Cinema Club. “Our students already run a radio station, so a movie theatre makes sense, especially in our beautiful new Alumni Auditorium. With a brand new sound and projection system, this is a wonderful place for everyone in our community to enjoy a classic movie.”
The schedule and themes for the rest of the spring semester includes films by Alfred Hitchcock (Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest), musicals (West Side Story, My Fair Lady), romantic adventures on the water (The African Queen, Titanic), westerns (High Noon, The Wild Bunch, Unforgiven), science fiction (E.T., Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey), unruly animals (The Birds, King Kong, Jaws), politics (All the King’s Men, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, All the President’s Men), coming of age (American Graffiti, Diner, The Graduate) and D-Day (The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan). At least two, and usually three, films will be shown most Thursdays between now and June.

Fern Creek High School is located at 9115 Fern Creek Road. For more information, contact Brian Miller at brian.miller@fchs.us or call 502-485-6362.

Public Hearing Announced on Proposed Changes to Ordinance on Historic Districts and Landmarks

April 3, 2012

The Louisville Metro Council’s Planning and Zoning Committee will hold the second of two public hearings on a proposed ordinance (O-33-02-12), which will amend Louisville Metro’s Designation of Historic Districts and Local Landmarks.

The second public hearing will take place on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The second public hearing will be held at the meeting hall of UAW Local 862 (3000 Fern Valley Road). This hearing will not be aired live via Metro TV or streaming video due to the fact that the meeting is being held at a remote location. An audio recording of the meeting will be available on the Metro Council’s website after the conclusion of the meeting and recording of minutes.

Hearing Rules: Persons wishing to address the committee will have the opportunity to sign up one (1) hour prior to the start of either hearing. Those who sign up to speak will be called to address the committee in the order in which they signed up, and will each be given up to three minutes to speak. Persons will not be allowed to sign up to speak via phone call or e-mail to the Metro Council in advance, nor will they be allowed to grant their time to another person.

Signups will take place at the UAW. Signups for the hearings will be conducted by the office of the Metro Council Clerk.

Any person who speaks before the committee or is unable to speak will be allowed to submit written testimony for inclusion in the record of the hearing. Persons attending the meetings are not allowed to bring signs, props or other materials that are larger than 8 ½” x 11” in size or that might block the view of persons attending the hearing.  3 minutes will be allowed to each speaker and will be a first-come first-serve basis.

Volunteers receive free t-shirts, bags and gloves.  You can help us make a difference in the community by supporting Brightside's anti-litter initiatives, keeping Louisville and our District 22 communities clean, green and beautiful.  Brightside is donor-funded and volunteer driven. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide 2012

Information on the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program

Tax Preparation will be available from now until April 15, 2012.
A list of sites is available here: http://www.aarp-tax-aide-lou.org/Sites/sites.html. The sites are staffed with AARP Foundation Tax- Aide volunteers that have been trained and are certified by the IRS to prepare a range of individual income tax returns.

Note: AARP Tax Site closings due to weather follow the school closing schedule for the county in which the Tax Site is located.

Can I phone someone to be sure a site is open today?
Call 502-394-3443 between 9:15am and 1:00pm, Monday-Friday after Jan 31,2012 and before April 15, 2012 to confirm site hours and availability of assistance for the day.

Can anyone get tax preparation help at an AARP Tax-Aide site?
Almost anyone can receive free assistance, as long as it is within the limits of the skill and training of the volunteer counselor. Note that help is intended primarily for persons with low to moderate income so those able to utilize the services of professional preparers are encouraged to do so, particularly for complex issues and complicated returns.

Do I have to be a member of AARP?
AARP membership is not required, this is a free community service provided through the auspices of the AARP Foundation and the IRS.

May I make an appointment?
Taxpayers are served on a first-come, first serve basis. This service was originally intended to serve seniors as well as those with low-middle income. The service is now available to anyone whose needs fall within the training and skills of the preparers. Persons with complex returns and above average income levels would most likely benefit from the skills of a professional service.
