Traffic light issues at S. Hurstbourne Parkway & Taylorsville Road

Publication1

Councilwoman Parker has received numerous traffic signal concerns for the intersection at S. Hurstbourne Parkway & Taylorsville Road. The timing of the left turn signals at all four turns are an issue and causes unnecessary backups. The Metro Traffic Engineering Department has been contacted and they have been on site numerous times to assess the situation. Below is their response.

"Louisville Metro Public Works and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are aware of concerns regarding the traffic signal operations at the intersection of Hurstbourne Parkway (KY-1747) & Taylorsville Road (KY-155).  The existing traffic signal controller equipment limits the desired efficiencies traffic engineers would prefer given the existing operational constraints (pedestrian crossings for all approaches, dual lane protected-only left-turn movements on all approaches).  There is an ongoing project which will upgrade the KY-1747 corridor from Stony Brook Drive (just south of Taylorsville Road) to Shelbyville Road (US-60) with advanced traffic signal controller and wireless communication routers.  These upgrades will allow the engineers to provide additional green time to the southbound movements on Hurstbourne Parkway without significantly impacting the other intersection approaches while keeping the corridor in-step with local controller clock updates from the central traffic management system downtown."

As further information becomes available our District 18 office will add to future newsletters!
