We’d like to welcome Ozzy Gibson as our new Interim Director. Ozzy replaces Margaret Brosko, who departed at the end of the year. Ozzy is a former Deputy Chief with the Louisville Metro Police Department retiring in 2016 after a 26-year career. He most recently served as a Chief over the Louisville Health Department, Public Works, Fleet & Facilities, and Metro Animal Services. Best of luck to Margaret, and to Ozzy! |
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Tree planting event taking place at Shawnee Park
 Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service by making our city greener for everyone! We will be planting 100 trees in Shawnee Park (4501 W Broadway, 40211) on Monday, January 16 from 1-4 p.m. and we need your help! All tools are provided and families/groups are welcome.
Registration now active for youth Spring Break Camps
Join Louisville Parks and Recreation for Spring Break Camps! Day camps are set to take place April 3-7 from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m.and are offered to youth ages 6-12. A one-time $20 registration fee is due when registering and a $50 per child fee is due a week in advance.
Spring Break camps are a great opportunity for youth to get outside and play games with new friends, learn a new sport, be creative with arts & crafts, experience outdoor adventures, go swimming and take a field trip to local attractions!
2023 Annual Golf Passes available for purchase
Louisville Parks and Recreation’s annual golf passes for the 2023 calendar year are available for purchase in person and online!
Annual passes cover green fees for the 2023 calendar year (January 1 – December 31), after a user fee per round is assessed each time a pass is used. Prices vary by course and dynamic pricing may apply during peak playing times.
Annual golf cart passes are also available for purchase and are $75, plus a user fee per pass used. Dynamic pricing may apply at courses during peak playing times.
New annual pass holders will be required to visit the golf desk located in the parks department’s administrative building, located in Joe Creason Park (1297 Trevilian Way), across from the Louisville Zoo, for photo identification.
Those interested in renewing their passes may purchase their 2023 pass online, over the phone by calling (502) 574-PARK (7275) or by visiting the golf desk Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Family Fun Nights at the Mary T. Aquatic Center
Family Fun Nights are evenings of fun for the entire family! Join us at the Mary T. Aquatic Center (201 Reservoir Ave, 40206) at the dates below. No registration is required, just show up and have some fun! One adult age 18 or older must accompany children 12 and under. For safety reasons, each adult may chaperone no more than 4 children 12 and under.

Registration begins next month for the Mr. Moore Memorial Basketball League
March Madness is almost here and the perfect reason for youth ages 8-10 to participate in the Mr. Moore Memorial Basketball League. The league is named in honor of Sammy Moore, local basketball legend who starred at Louisville Central High School and member of the Kentucky Basketball Hall of Fame.
Games will tip off on March 4 at the Southwick Community Center (3621 Southern Ave) and other games will take place at South Louisville (2911 Taylor Blvd) and Berrytown (1300 Heafer Rd) Community Centers. Registration begins February 1 and those interested will be able to sign up at bestparksever.com.
We Got Next Mentoring happening at Southwick Community Center
We Got Next Mentoring strives to build positivity, confidence and self-esteem by encouraging mentees to be cheerful givers, hard workers and overcomers. Join University of Louisville Sports Medicine every 3rd Saturday of the month at the Southwick Community Center (3621 Southern Ave, 40211) from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for free lunch, sports, socialization, mentorship and fun!
Louisville Parks and Recreation partnering with JenCare to host a FREE Valentine party for seniors
Join Louisville Parks and Recreation and JenCare for a senior Valentine party happening at the Sun Valley Community Center (6505 Bethany Ln, 40272). The Valentine Party is set to take place on February 14 from noon - 3 p.m.
There will be a DJ, dancing, door prizes and more! Be sure to RSVP before February 7 by calling the center at (502) 377-4865, if you'd like a meal. Additionally, if you are in need of transportation, please RSVP to a Louisville Parks and Recreation community center near you.
Join Berrytown Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Center for a Valentine's Day dance next month
Berrytown Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Center (1300 Heafer Rd, 40223) will be hosting the Heart to Heart Dance on Saturday, February 11 from 2-5 p.m. Snacks will be provided and those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP at bestparksever.com or by calling the center at (502) 456-8148.
Take a prowl and see some owls with our Natural Areas staff
 Will owls respond if they’re called? Whooooo knows! Join Natural Areas staff for an owl prowl that will begin indoors with a presentation about these amazing nocturnal predators, their habitats, and behaviors. The evening continues with a hike along well-traveled paths as we call out for these elusive birds. Test your auditory skills by listening for their responses. Dress for the weather and choose clothing that doesn’t make noise when you move. You may bring a flashlight or headlamp, however, it MUST be a red light to protect everyone’s night vision.
Program will meet in the Horine Reservation at the Horine Conference Center (12408 Holsclaw Hill Rd, Brooks, KY 40109 on Google Maps). Park in the large gravel lot and walk down the drive to the conference center.
For ages 10 and older (must be able to stand quietly for several minutes at a time). A parent/ legal guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18. Registration is required and can be completed online or by calling (502) 368-5404.
Valentine's Day Hike happening at Jefferson Memorial Forest next month
 Give your sweetie the moon, the stars, and a romantic treat by a warm bonfire! This year’s Valentine’s Day hike will include two options: a candlelit hike with hot chocolate for you and your partner or a candlelit hike leading to a private bonfire with a table for two and a s’mores kit (welcome to bring your own picnic dinner). Meet in the Horine Reservation main parking lot (12408 Holsclaw Hill Rd, Brooks, KY 40109). Start times vary and space is limited.
The fee is $25 per couple for hike and hot chocolate, $50 per couple for reserved bonfire table. The Valentine's Hike is offered to ages 17+. Registration is required by February 8, and can be completed online or by calling (502) 368-5404.
