SNOW READY!

In preparation of potential freezing temperatures overnight, several members of Metro’s Snow Team will be monitoring conditions on bridge decks, overpasses, hills and other elevated roadways. Temperatures are forecasted to drop to 32 degrees around sunrise – if the need for salt treatment arises, Public Works crews will have 15 salt trucks loaded and on standby, ready to treat those areas to prevent slick spots from forming.

Message From McCraney

m

Hello neighbors and friends,

As most of you know, I am the proud daughter of a United States Army Veteran. I think about and honor my father every Veterans Day and throughout the year as I remember my childhood days with him. He was an honorable man's man, head usher at our church, and a fantastic dad. His service to the community was as admirable as his service to our country. I will be forever proud of my father and all the men and women who served our country. I didn't want this week to end without saying THANK YOU to all Veterans of the United States. We are all very honored by your service and commitment. I Salute You!

Speaking of service to the community, THANK YOU, District 7, for re-electing me to serve as your Metro Councilwoman for a second term. I am truly humbled and honored.

I was first elected in 2018 and have made it my mission to amplify your voices and concerns. As your representative, I value and enjoy meeting and hearing from you on ways to build a better Louisville. I look forward to hosting more "Muffins with McCraney" neighborhood meetings and communicating with you through this eNewsletter. If you know neighbors who do not receive this eNewsletter, please send me their email addresses, and I will sign them up. My motto is, "Friends don't let friends miss the District 7 eNewsletter!"

I will use the theme "Building Community" in 2023. Therefore, look for features in the eNewsletter of District 7 hometown heroes, suburban city happenings, and businesses. Watch for highlights about events taking place throughout Louisville and more District 7 tours to various parts of our city. If you have ideas for news stories you'd like to see in this medium, or if you have any noteworthy events in your neighborhood, please let me know. I want to hear from you and feature items of interest to you.

Lastly, please see the picture below of your tax dollars at work. The photos were taken of the Hubbards Lane Recycling Center, and it's not so much about what you will see in the picture, but it is about what you won't see. Check it out...

Recycling Center Upgrades

r

As you may recall, I secured $175,000 in the Louisville Metro Budget for the environmental cleanup at the Hubbards Lane Recycling Center and surrounding ditches and streams near Coach Gate. I am happy to report that some of the work has begun!

In the picture above, you do not see the old Scale house that was located on the recycling property with asbestos issues. The building, at a cost of $21,500, has been demolished. The area is now being cleared of all environmental toxins and the next phase will be the removal of some concrete structure that surrounded the building.

Other beautification upgrades will take place in 2023, which will include the creek/stream cleanups and replanting of trees. I'm excited about this project and very proud that I get to stick around to see it through to fruition.

Council Meeting Recap

Louisville Metro Council

Here is a recap and resolution of select agenda item(s) presented during the November 10th Council meeting.

1. Premium Pay for Suburban Fire and EMS Employees - APPROVED. (I was one of the Primary Sponsors of this Resolution.) This resolution appropriates premium pay to suburban fire and EMS employees in the following manner:

Tier I: $5,000 - essential staff; front line employees that were unable to regularly telework; had regular interaction with the public; worked directly with the public dealing with Covid related interactions; handled items handled by others;

Tier II: $1500 – essential staff; employees that were unable to regularly telework; had regular interaction with peers in an office setting; regularly handled items handled by others; and,

Tier III: $500 – all other employees that do not fall into Tier I or Tier II.

2. Ordinance relating to owners of property of which reoccurring crime is negatively impacting surrounding neighborhoods - APPROVED. (I was a Co-Sponsor of this Ordinance). Ordinance Summary: No owner of residential, commercial, or vacant property located in Louisville Metro shall allow their premises to become or remain a Criminal Activity Nuisance; no person or owner shall destroy, remove, or deface any citation, order, or notice posted by Code Enforcement; and no person or owner shall disobey any order issued by Code Enforcement or the Code Enforcement Board or use, occupy, or permit any other person to use or occupy any premises in contravention of a Final Order issued pursuant to this ordinance. Property violations include: Prostitution and/or human trafficking; Sexual offenses; Gambling offenses; The sale or use of alcoholic beverages on or from either licensed or unlicensed premises; Misdemeanor or felony possession, trafficking, or manufacturing drug offenses; Murder and manslaughter; Assault or related offenses; Theft offenses; Drug paraphernalia offenses; or Unlicensed massage therapy. This ordinance makes it easier for Metro law enforcement to take action on violators.

3. Lobbying of Metro Council Officers - APPROVED.  Persons paid to "lobby" Council members to influence decisions in support of a project or issue, must register and disclose details of the topics discussed. This ordinance ensures more transparency in government.

4. Lead Abatement Ordinance - TABLED and sent back to Committee for further review.

5. Greenhouse Gas Emissions Resolution – APPROVED. This resolution supports the establishment of a  science based target of Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions community-wide by 2040 in Louisville/Jefferson County.

Stormwater/Drainage

Stormwater/Drainage | MSD (louisvillemsd.org)

Storm wa·ter n: Surface water resulting from rain or snow.

When it rains or snows, all that stormwater has to go somewhere. First the stormwater runoff makes its way into drainage swales, channels, storm drains and pipes that carry it away from our homes and businesses. Then it flows into creeks and streams, and in our area, eventually to the Ohio River. Along its journey, stormwater accumulates soil and pollutants—like lawn chemicals, pet waste and oil—which can harm our waterways.

To make sure that our waterways stay safe and clean, MSD Stormwater service monitors for pollutants and removes illegal non-stormwater discharges. It’s a big task that covers most of Jefferson County and approximately 680,500 people.*

*The cities of Anchorage, Jeffersontown, St. Matthews and Shively provide residents and businesses in those municipalities with stormwater/drainage service.

Monkeypox tends to spread through close contact with someone who is infected with the virus. It can spread through prolonged face-to-face contact and intimate physical contact such as kissing, cuddling or sex. The virus can also be spread through materials, like bedding, that has previously touched an infectious rash or bodily fluids. Click here for more information: monkeypox
