LMAS partners with Best Friends Animal Society to Bring Home Happiness!
From Sept 16-18, all adoptions will be FREE for approved adopters!
As shelters across the U.S. deal with an overcrowding crisis, Best Friends is sponsoring a national adoption campaign to bring awareness to the public and encouraging people to adopt instead of shop.
All cat, kitten, dog, and puppy adoptions are free and a free gift is also included. All adoptable pets are already spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

I-71 South will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, to 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, between I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway). The ramps to I-71 South at the I-265 interchange will also be closed.
The suggested alternate route for motorists on I-71 South and I-265 South will be I-265 South to I-64 West to I-264 East to I-71 South. Motorists on I-265 North can continue to U.S. 42 West (Exit 37) to I-264 East to I-71 South.
Regional traffic signs and electronic message boards were posted in the project area well in advance, notifying motorists of the closures and alternate routes. Motorists should heed signage, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zones.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews have split northbound driving lanes on I-265 between the I-64 interchange and the Shelbyville Road interchange. During this phase of the project, all traffic needing to exit onto I-64 or Shelbyville Road must use the right lane.
Left-lane traffic will be moved across the median to utilize current southbound lanes, and barrier walls will be in place to separate northbound and southbound traffic.
This will be a long-term split to replace asphalt with concrete on a high traffic area of I-265 North. It will not reduce capacity for regular traffic, but a width restriction will be in place for this area during construction.
Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen events.
Motorists should be cautious when traveling through active work zones. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of the lane split.
Several neighbors call each week asking about Junk Collection, or Large Item Set Out weekends for residents of the Urban Services District (the old City of Louisville)
If you live in the Urban Services District (USD), you may begin setting out your junk Friday, September 30th in the afternoon. All junk must be set out by Monday, October 3rd at 6:00 a.m.
The rules on set out times and what can be set out are strictly enforced. Public Works often documents their progress as they work their routes and note if nothing has been set out at particular addresses.
Here are some items that are NOT collected:
- Hazardous materials (Motor oil, batteries, paint, gasoline, antifreeze, light bulbs, or chemicals)
- Items containing coolant (refrigerators, air conditioners)
- Electronics
- Construction Debris and Demolition Waste
- Yard Waste and Tree Trunks

The Louisville Sustainability Council will host its annual summit Louisville 2030: A Better Tomorrow Begins Today, on October 6 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. This year's virtual Louisville Sustainability Summit will convene local and regional leaders in the business, non-profit, and government space to speak on policy, activism, and the sustainability movement required to shape a community vision for Louisville 2030.

Put your photography skills to work in Louisville’s beautiful Olmstead Parks. The Tyler Gerth Memorial Photography Contest will consist of five categories, each of which will have one Winner and two Honorable Mentions, and a grand “Best of Show.” This year’s theme is Focus on Olmsted Parks, which include Seneca, Bingham and a small section of Cherokee in D9.
Photographs will be judged on visual appeal, creativity and by category – Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and Smaller Park (under 100 acres). Entry deadline is Friday, October 7, 2022. Winners will be notified by email or phone number listed on the release form.
