Join the community of compassionate volunteers at Hildegard House. They provide a home and compassionate care for individuals at the end of life who have no home or loved ones to care for them. They allow them to die with dignity and access to hospice care. They are the family for their residents and care for them just like family members. Compassionate Companions commit to a weekly 5-hour shift. The next volunteer training is September 9 and 10. This week marks the start of the new school year for many of our local districts, including Jefferson County Public Schools. The JCPS Back-to-School page is a great resource for information on meals, bus routes, COVID guidelines, re-establishing routines, open houses, and more. Here's hoping for a great week and school year!
Parks For All will collect new data, listen to new voices, share new information, and create a roadmap for equitable and transparent investment in our public parks. Public parks are powerful tools that strengthen the fabric of communities, positively impact health and the environment, and spur economic growth. Yet, The Trust for Public Land's ParkScore®, which measures park access, investment, amenities, acreage, and equity, ranks Louisville 90th in the nation.
We must do better! The Parks Alliance of Louisville partnered with Metro Council and are currently gathering community feedback that will inform an action strategy for our public parks. Our goal is to ensure the parks AND neighborhoods with the greatest need are prioritized for the earliest investment.

Louisville Water’s project to install a new water main in Southwest Jefferson County is progressing, but it is moving along slower than anticipated. Blanton Lane remains closed between Mills Drive and St. Andrews Church Road, while crews work to complete the installation of the new water main. Due to supply chain issues the work has been delayed. They now hope to have their work completed on Blanton Lane in October. Above is a detour map for the closure. A postcard is being mailed to customers informing them of this delay. They greatly appreciate your understanding as they work to complete this important project.

Louisville Parks and Recreation’s Natural Areas division invites community members from Southwest Louisville to participate in the creation of a conceptual master plan for the Mill Creek Greenway. This exciting project will transform about eight miles of Mill Creek and adjacent publicly-owned land between Sylvania Park in PRP and the power plant south of Valley Station. Thanks to a grant from The Nature Conservancy, landscape architects/planners will work with residents and other stakeholders on a plan to bring this waterway to life. The result will be a roadmap for a new public greenway for outdoor recreation. Given its scope, the project has the potential to be one of the nation’s largest urban stream mitigation efforts.
If you live in Southwest Louisville and would like to get involved, please click here and fill out the interest form found above the resources section. Or visit our table at the District Dialogue on Tuesday, August 23 at 6:00pm at the Southwest Government Center.

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) has found mosquitos infected with West Nile virus in surveillance traps in seven Jefferson County ZIP codes: 40203, 40206, 40208, 40211, 40212, 40214 and 40215.
West Nile virus is endemic to Louisville, meaning it is regularly found in mosquito populations in Jefferson County. Residents should assume West Nile virus is present in all ZIP codes this time of year. No matter what ZIP code you live in, LMPHW advises you to take the following precautions:
- Use insect repellents when you go outdoors. More information about insect repellents can be found here.
- When weather permits, wear long sleeves, long pants and socks when outdoors. Mosquitos may bite through thin clothing, so spraying clothes with a repellent containing permethrin or another EPA-registered repellent will give extra protection. Don't apply repellents containing permethrin directly to your skin. Do not spray repellent on the skin under your clothing.
- Take extra care during peak mosquito biting hours of early morning and dusk.
For more information about where we are fogging, call the Mosquito Fogging Hotline 502-574-6641.
