Message From McCraney

Hello Neighbors and Friends,

The Metro Council has been on summer break since June 27th. However, I stuck around this week to complete some projects before heading out to prepare for a fun-filled 4th of July with family and friends. I hope you're planning some fun in the sun and lots of rest. Be safe, enjoy every moment with your family, and drink plenty of water outdoors in the scorching hot weather predicted for this weekend.

Please look for your next issue of the District 7 eNewsletter on Friday, July 15, 2022. However, if I hear of breaking news or something spectacular happening in District 7, I will issue a special edition to keep you in the know.

I will be on the steps of Metro Hall at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 4th, along with other select community leaders, to participate in the reading of the Declaration of Independence. This is a tradition that I've been a part of since my election to office. The event is open to the public, so I hope you'll come downtown to witness the ceremony.

There are many 4th of July activities planned throughout our community. If you miss the 9:00 a.m. event at Metro Hall, you still have many options on the table. See the list of Independence Day events below.

Enjoy!

P.S. Although the Council is on summer break, please call me at (502) 574-1107 and leave a message if I can be of service to you.

No Committee or Council Meetings Until July 19, 2022

FROM THE MAYOR'S OFFICE:

Unprecedented toll hike

At a time when so many are struggling with the impact of inflation, Mayor Fischer is speaking up about ways to lower costs in our communities. That includes NOT hiking tolls to the maximum to cross the Ohio River bridges. The Mayor urges Indiana Gov. Holcomb to rethink his economically insensitive decision to hike bridge tolls to unprecedented levels effective tomorrow, July 1. Residents can let their voices be heard by calling Gov. Holcomb’s office at 317-232-4567.

Investing in our future

The Mayor has signed the city budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year, which starts tomorrow, July 1. He said the Metro budget, his last as Mayor, continues a focus on public safety and equity while further positioning the city for future progress. Highlights include $10 million for affordable housing, funding for three Louisville Metro Police recruiting classes, an additional $3 million for the Evolve502 promise scholarships, and about $45 million for paving and sidewalks.

Louisville remains in the yellow COVID-19 level category

c

Louisville remains in the “medium” or “yellow” COVID-19 community level category. The CDC recommends residents in counties in the “medium” risk category to do the following:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Stay home if you are sick except to seek testing from a healthcare provider. Your healthcare provider can test for COVID-19 and prescribe effective treatments for you. A home covid test may show up negative but you could still have the virus.
  • Talk to your health care provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions if you are at high risk for severe illness.

Here are the key COVID-19 data metrics for this week:

  • Daily incidence rate of 50.3 cases per 100,000 population
  • Weekly incidence rate of 342.76 cases per 100,000 population
  • 2,700 new cases reported over the previous week
  • 17 newly reported deaths
  • 3% of hospital inpatient beds are in use by patients with confirmed COVID-19
  • 47% of those fully vaccinated have received a booster dose

Have you tested positive for COVID, but aren't sure what to do? Need help finding a COVID test or vaccination location? Call the LOU Health COVID-19 Helpline, 502-912-8598,available Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Language translation services are available.

First case of Monkeypox announced in Jefferson County

 m

Public health officials recently announced the first probable case of monkeypox in Kentucky in 2022 was identified in a Jefferson County resident. No further information about the patient will be released due to privacy concerns. The patient remains isolated, and health officials are working to identify anyone the patient may have had close contact with while infectious.

The risk of monkeypox to the general public is low. It is rarely fatal and there are treatments and vaccines available. If you are worried that you may have monkeypox or may have had close contact with someone recently infected with monkeypox, contact your healthcare provider. Here are the facts about monkeypox.

More information about the monkeypox outbreak is available on the CDC’s website.
