Safety tips for Kentucky Derby and Mother’s Day festivities
It’s a big weekend for Louisville. We’re celebrating horses, fun, fashion, food, and mothers. COVID-19, specifically the omicron BA.2 variant, has crashed the party. Well, they’re more like a guest who’s worn out their welcome and won’t leave.
Here are a few tips to help you reduce your risk of being exposed to the virus:
- Check our covid data dashboard before the event to see Louisville’s current covid situation. Access your risk based on your personal health and choose protection measures that work for you.
- Make sure you’ve had all the doses of covid vaccine for which you’re eligible.
- Take a covid test before heading to any large gathering.
- Stay at home if you are sick.
- Avoid being around others who are sick.
- Wear a mask, preferably an N95 or surgical one, if it makes you more comfortable to be around others.
- Practice good handwashing and hand sanitizing throughout the day.
If you need help finding a vaccination or testing location, or should you test positive and aren’t sure what to do, call the LOU Health Helpline for support, 502-912-8598.
