Councilwoman Fowler, Vanessa Burns and Robert Lush recognized Mr. Ronnie Beld and Mr. Steve Beld at the 4-28-22 Metro Council Meeting.
CW Fowler expressed: Ronnie and Steve Beld have been litter ambassadors in the community where they have lived all their lives. You will see them walking Blevins Gap, Pendleton Road, East Orell or Medora Road everyday, rain, shine or snow, picking up trash, tires or any other debris left behind by inconsiderate commuters. Ronnie and Steve understand volunteering in their community. They have been there for EVERY junk drop off in D14 and picked up truckloads of tires, car parts and trash for the Brightside Cleanups for many years. They have volunteered with SW Ministries, the Southwest Festival and any other event where they are needed. Ronnie and Steve set the bar pretty high when it comes to giving back! Thank you Gentlemen.

Pop-Up Drop-Offs are free recycling and large item disposal events for residents of Jefferson County. Through a partnership between the Department of Public Works, the Waste Management District, and Metro Council, these events are held monthly, through November, at various locations.
The second event is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Metro Fleet Services, 3515 Newburg Road.
Residents can recycle electronics, tires, and scrap metal, dispose of prescription medication and bulky items, and compost yard debris. Items must be separated into those various categories for easy off-loading at each area. Limitations and guidelines are found at Louisvilleky.gov/PopUps. Note: on-site paper shredding is not available at this event.
The goal is to give all Jefferson County residents opportunities to dispose of unwanted items properly and to keep as much material out of the landfill as possible.

Illegally dumped trash is more than just an eyesore! It is expensive to clean up, it negatively impacts our quality of life and economic development, and the plastic debris may end up in our waterways and oceans. Individuals caught dumping illegally may have their vehicle impounded and face fines and fees totaling about $1,000.
We have recently posted images on social media asking for help identifying illegal dumpers caught on camera and reporting when a vehicle was impounded. WDRB also helped spread the word about the negative impacts of illegal dumping. View their story here.
Residents are encouraged to fill out this online form if they witness illegal dumping. The form can also be used to share home security camera footage or images of illegal dumping occurring with our Solid Waste Enforcement Department. Go to Louisvilleky.gov/IllegalDumping to learn more about how you can help prevent illegal dumping.
