Dear Neighbor,

Today is Earth Day. While we should do what we can to protect and preserve our planet - and our home - please consider doing something extra this weekend to make a difference for you, your family, and all of us.

As we enjoy the first "normal" Derby Festival since 2019, please be safe and conscious of all our neighbors. Tomorrow is Thunder Over Louisville, which means you may want to avoid downtown at all costs.

If you are planning to attend, please know that TARC is offering FREE rides all day on Saturday and special routes to Thunder. This is a great opportunity to avoid the pain or impossibility of finding a place to park. Parking will be very limited or non-existent downtown. Event organizers are expecting far more people to attend this year. More streets are closed and parking is restricted in additional areas of downtown. A list of street closures is below.

Have a great weekend,

Brent Signature

EARTHDAY

April 24 | Celebrate Earth Day at the Zoo!

TICKETS REDUCED TO $8.25 + FREE PARKING

The Louisville Zoo will celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 24 with $8.25 general admission plus free parking thanks to our sponsor Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities Foundation. The day will also feature activities to celebrate sustainability. Patrons can learn more about the Zoo’s conservation efforts and visit “eco-themed” exhibitors.

Earth Day 2022 is the highlight of the Zoo’s “Party for the Planet: A Month-Long Celebration of the Earth” in April.

Tickets are on sale online at louisvillezoo.org/event/earth-day-2022.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests can learn about the Zoo’s conservation efforts and visit eco-partner environmental displays at stations throughout the Zoo. Guests will be able to discover ways to connect to the local environment and also make a collective difference in conservation on a national and global level.

TARC offering FREE Rides on Saturday

All routes on TARC will be will fare-free this Saturday, April 23 to provide convenient, free access to and from Thunder Over Louisville, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Kentucky Derby Festival and Humana. In addition, TARC is increasing service into downtown Louisville and designating five post-event boarding areas. The service plan mirrors TARC service for Thunder in recent years with an added circulator service from Broadway at 11th Street to Shawnee Park until 11:00 p.m.

About 10,000 passengers are expected to take TARC for the annual fireworks and air show on the river. Passengers are encouraged visit ridetarc.org and use the Trip Planner on the home page to plan ahead and know their route number and stop locations.

Passengers traveling on TARC from Southern Indiana are cautioned that buses on cross-river routes #71-Jeffersonville, Louisville, New Albany and #72-Clarksville will not make return trips to Indiana after 8:00 p.m. due to the closure of the Clark Memorial (2nd Street), Lincoln, and Kennedy Bridges. With the exception of bridge access, TARC will provide service on Southern Indiana routes as scheduled.

Post-event boarding in downtown Louisville will be restricted to five locations, most within blocks of the waterfront. Buses will operate until 11:00 p.m. at those locations (see list and map below). Due to traffic, buses have limited access on downtown streets after the event. The boarding locations are designed to keep buses out of heavy traffic as much as possible and to get people home as quickly as possible.

Beginning at 3:30 p.m., more buses will be added on routes serving downtown, improving the frequency of bus arrival times at stops and adding capacity. However, as the event draws closer, downtown routes may be delayed due to police barricades and heavy pedestrian traffic.
