For almost 25 years, the Louisville/Jefferson County Environmental Trust has been working with private landowners and public agencies to conserve and manage natural areas, farmland, historic sites, greenways and scenic views. The Trust was formed by local ordinance in 1997 to promote voluntary conservation and preservation strategies and share expertise about public land managed as open space.
In a unique cooperative arrangement, the Trust’s Oversight Board consists of five citizens with conservation backgrounds and the directors of four Metro agencies with responsibilities for public and private lands – Planning, Public Works, Parks and MSD. Those agencies provide staff support and office space in support of the Trust’s work.
Most recently housed at Public Works, and at Parks and Recreation before that, the Trust’s administrative function has moved to the Office of Advanced Planning and Sustainability within Louisville Forward. To learn more, visit the Trust's website or contact Lisa Hite, Project Manager at lisa.hite@louisvilleky.gov or (502) 574-4140.
