Fresh off last week’s news about Louisville’s first Jack in the Box, the franchise has set its sights on its next location, Louisville Business First reports.
San Diego-based Jack in the Box submitted plans to the Louisville Metro Government for another Louisville restaurant, this time at 10700 Dixie Highway in Valley Station. The building was formerly home to Chillburger, which is now closed.
The filing shows the restaurant will be 2,494 square feet. The building is owned by Valley Station Shopping Center LLC, according to the Jefferson County Property Valuation Administrator website.
New York-based APD Engineering & Architecture is providing its services on the project, the filing shows. Frank Bellis, founding partner at TRIO Commercial Property Group, is representing Jack in the Box in its expansion.
No price or timeline is disclosed in the plans.

The Louisville Zoo Get Healthy Walking Club presented by Norton Healthcare returns March 1 and launches the Zoo’s walking season, which runs through Oct. 31, 2022.
The Walking Club is now accepting new enrollment and is free to join. Club membership offers free entry into the Zoo from 8 to 9:15 a.m. (walkers can enjoy the Zoo until 9:30 a.m.).
The Zoo walker’s loop at the Louisville Zoo is a hard-surface 1.1-mile walk where visitors may enjoy both flat areas and hilly terrain along with the sights and sounds of the Zoo. Directional signs keep walkers on track and provide special health tips along the way. Walkers enter at the front gate and MUST present the Norton Healthcare Get Healthy ID to the attendant.

Membership to the Zoo is not required to enroll in the Walking Club. Zoo exhibits, concessions, rentals, etc., are not opening during the Walking Club hours. If walkers would like to visit the Zoo exhibits, they must re-enter the Zoo via the front gate at 10 a.m. with a paid receipt or Zoo membership.

The Louisville Zoo is happy to bring back one of the largest lantern festivals in the nation — Wild Lights—returning March 18 through June 5, 2022. Tickets are now on sale at louisvillezoo.org/wildlights.
Wild Lights features a variety of animal lanterns, including mammals, birds, and insects, a 98-foot-long dragon, mythical Chinese creatures and promenade walk-throughs. The 48-night immersive cultural experience that kicks off the Zoo’s 53rd season will also include unique handcrafted goods available for purchase, nightly cultural performances on the MetaZoo stage, and Asian-fusion cuisine by Service Systems Associates (SSA) – the Zoo’s food and amenity vendor.

Our Spring Community-Wide Cleanup is happening Saturday, April 16th! Be a part of this city-wide event to keep Louisville looking bright and beautiful by finding more information here. Registration will open February 28th.
We encourage all residents make a difference by taking part in our Community-Wide Cleanup-- it is a great service opportunity for boy/girl scouts, sports teams, faith groups, community organizations, and corporate teams.
Cleanups are an integral part of Brightside's mission and without the help of volunteer groups, and many other volunteers throughout the year, Brightside could not achieve our goals of a cleaner, greener Louisville.
Neighborhoods can hold their own cleanups at any point throughout the year and we can provide gloves and bags for each Neighborhood Cleanup. We will work with Solid Waste Management to have the collected litter bags picked up. VITA and AARP Tax Aide programs provide trained, IRS-certified volunteers to offer free tax services online or at select drop-off sites. VITA is available to individuals and families who earned less than $66,000 in 2021. AARP Tax-Aide’s mission is to serve any person who comes through the door, with special attention to those 60 and older.
January 24 is the first official day for filing tax returns this season. This year, due to the COVID pandemic, several of the VITA sites will prepare in-person free tax filing by appointments only, and most of the sites will provide free tax filing through drop-off services. Individuals can visit getyourrefund.org to have their taxes prepared online.

The Office of Advanced Planning and Sustainability provides incentives to property owners of $1 per square foot of cool roof installed, with a goal of incentivizing at least 100,000 square feet of cool roofs. Buildings located in Metro Council Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 14 and 15 are identified as high heat island areas based on the Urban Heat Management Study (2016) and will receive 70% of the available funding for Fiscal Year 2022. The program will continue until funds are depleted. Incentives are limited to a maximum of three properties per property owner per fiscal year.

Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services is now accepting applications for the annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Crisis Component and the new Low Income Home Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). Applications will be accepted first come, first served during designated enrollment periods or until funds have been expended.
LIHEAP and LIHWAP can assist households, up to and including 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, who meet the program eligibility requirements. Benefits are paid directly to the household’s vendor.

Illegally dumped trash is more than just an eyesore! It is expensive to clean up, it negatively impacts our quality of life and economic development, and the plastic debris may end up in our waterways and oceans. Individuals caught dumping illegally may have their vehicle impounded and face fines and fees totaling about $1,000.
We have recently posted images on social media asking for help identifying illegal dumpers caught on camera and reporting when a vehicle was impounded. WDRB also helped spread the word about the negative impacts of illegal dumping. View their story here.
Residents are encouraged to fill out this online form if they witness illegal dumping. The form can also be used to share home security camera footage or images of illegal dumping occurring with our Solid Waste Enforcement Department. Did you know..? Many waste materials can be dropped off legally and for FREE. Up to three large household items, up to 4 passenger tires, and up to 3 electronics items can be dropped off for free at the at the Waste Reduction Center, located at 636 Meriwether Avenue. A pickup truckload of yard waste or construction debris can be disposed for only $60.00.
Residents can also utilize the free Pop-Up Drop-Off events that occur monthly, on a Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., March - November, in various parts of Jefferson County. Southwest Community Ministries is currently overwhelmed with families who have never needed assistance before but are running out of household and hygiene products! They are asking for help from members of the community, youth groups, or anyone willing to donate.

At the Waste Reduction Center, Louisville/Jefferson County residents can dispose of tires, household bulky waste such as metals, appliances, electronics, tree limbs and stumps up to three feet in diameter, unbagged yard waste, construction debris, and furniture.
