Football fans across the country are gearing up for America’s most-watched sporting event, Super Bowl LVI, on Sunday, Feb. 13. While celebrations may look different this year, the dangers of drunken driving remain the same.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) Office of Highway Safety is teaming with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” reminder urging football fans to drive unimpaired and avoid a major fumble.
According to KYTC, preliminary numbers indicate 116 people in Kentucky were killed in crashes that involved a drunken driver in 2021.
To prevent impaired driving-related crashes, the KOHS recommends the following:
- Before the festivities begin, plan a way to get home at the end of the night safely;
- If you’re impaired, use a ride-booking company, taxi, call a sober friend or family member or use public transportation;
- If you see an impaired driver, safely pull over and contact law enforcement. You may dial the KSP toll-free line directly at 1-800-222-5555 or call 911;
- If you know people who are about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to their destination safely; and
- Wear a seat belt! It is not only the law, it is the best defense against an impaired driver. Buckling up helps prevent injury and death if involved in a crash.

 In September 2018 we were approached by the denominational leadership from a nearby church that had unfortunately closed its doors wanting us to tour their facility and hear our ideas for the empty building. We met, toured their facility and I held my breath as I made a pitch to the organization; a multi-year usage agreement, rent-free, we pay the utilities and insurance.
We were cautioned a decision from the denomination could take at least a month, but within 24 hours we received a call informing us our proposal had been accepted. A week later, we sat at a restaurant south of Indianapolis signing the agreement for the Community of Christ Church property at 4626 Valley Station Rd. and Dodge Lane.
Soon we relocated the Louisville Dream Center from the Life Church Louisville campus on E. Pages Lane to the basement of the new property. Since that day we have distributed over 1.7 million pounds of food to well-deserving families, other food pantries, and organizations throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Amazing!
Flash forward to November of 2021, I received the following email from the denominational leadership in Indy, the owners of the property.
“Dear Pastor Patrick, Saturday, November 6th, we held our annual business meeting for the Kentucky-Indiana mission center. At this meeting, we set before the conference a resolution to deed the property on Valley Station Road over to Life Church Louisville. The conference felt this would be a blessing to Life Church and to us. Would that be something you and your congregation would be interested in?”
I was stunned.
 Two weeks later following a Sunday morning service we held a business meeting and the Life Church Louisville congregation voted to receive the property.
Last week we signed the paperwork, and Monday, our attorney informed me the deed has been filed with Jefferson County and Life Church Louisville/The Louisville Dream Center is now the owner of the property.
We are so blessed!
I cannot begin to tell you how many miracles, both large and small we have witnessed at Life Church Louisville. Seriously, somedays we go to our knees in thanksgiving, and other days we just smile and shake our heads. It is amazing!
We invite you to celebrate with us by praying the Lord would allow us to continue to be a blessing to those most deserving in our community.
Additionally, Life Church Louisville is still at the E. Pages Lane campus and that campus will remain our primary campus. We will host small groups, meetings, and events from time to time at the new Valley Station Rd. campus, as well as operate the Louisville Dream Center Food Pantry every Thursday.

 Many vehicle owners in Jefferson County could soon be faced with a higher tax bill.
The value of used cars increased by as much as 40% during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that means the cost to renew your vehicle's registration could be higher this year than in years past.
The Jefferson County PVA's office has launched a way for people to appeal their tax bill via an online portal.
Kentucky law allows for appeals to the PVA within 60 days of receiving the notice of renewal. Such notices are typically sent the month before renewal is due, which is usually the owner's birth month.
Jefferson County PVA Colleen Younger said some reasons for an appeal might be that the car's mileage is higher than the estimated mileage of the assessment or if it has significant damage.
"All property, according to state law, is valued as it exists on January 1st," Younger said. "So if you have high mileage prior to January 1, you would submit that documentation."
To submit your appeal, click here.
Vehicle owners will be required to provide their name, phone number, mailing address, license plate number, VIN, vehicle year, vehicle make, and vehicle model, according to a news release. Providing a title number and email address are optional. It is up to the owner to substantiate any kind of high mileage, damage or mechanical defect.
