Metro Snow Team members have made their pre-trip safety inspections, loaded their trucks, headed to the starting point of their respective routes and will begin applying salt to roadways as soon as possible. 56 snow removing crews will be working around the clock taking care of 111 Metro snow routes (2,700 two-lane roadway miles). We urge the public to use extreme caution as they drive, allow themselves extra time to reach their destination, and give our snow fighters room to work.
Keep up with the Snow Team’s progress here.

 Pre-trip inspection
Recently, Metro Public Works reworked the intersection at Payne Street and S. Clifton Ave. (District 9). The traffic calming island on the Southwest corner of the intersection was removed in favor of a new, straighter roadway path and a brand new 4-Way STOP. The intersection was also updated with ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, detectable warning pavers and painted marked crosswalks. Another seemingly small Public Works project, which will greatly improve mobility and quality of life in the neighborhood.

Joseph Martin joined Public Works on 1/18 as a Performance Analyst. He was born and raised in Louisville. He has a degree in accounting but became bored with it, so he switched careers into data collection & analytics. Joe is very passionate about scale model trains and railroads. He goes to shows across the region setting up with an international modular layout system. Making friends and sharing ideas. Joe thinks that his work is his hobby and that model trains is his job. Hence the phrase, “my hobby is my job”. Joe is a member of the National Model Railroad Association, a group to promote the hobby of model railroading and encouragement of members to learn and challenge them to become better modelers. Joe loves baseball, college basketball, and college football. He likes hockey and has a great story of how he became a hockey fan.

Here are some tips and reminders to help you avoid the most common mistakes our crews see during waste collection in the Urban Services District.
Garbage
- Bring in your garbage cart after collection! This helps keep it from being damaged or stolen and helps reduce litter, especially in alleys.
- Garbage should always be inside your cart with the lid closed. Don't overfill! If your cart is damaged, request a free repair.
Recycling
- Styrofoam and plastic shopping bags are NOT accepted in Louisville's recycling programs. Review our list of accepted items.
- Recycle your items loosely and not bagged.
- Flatten cardboard and crush containers to conserve space in your cart!
Yard Waste (when collection resumes!)
- Yard waste may NOT be in plastic bags. Reusable containers are best.
- Yard waste may NOT be placed in city-issued garbage carts.
- Bundle small limbs properly. Yard Waste Guidelines
Large Item Collection
- Construction materials are NOT allowed. Review accepted items list.
- Yard waste and tree trimmings are NOT allowed. Use yard waste collection instead.
- Small items, even if they are bagged or boxed, are NOT allowed. Use garbage collection instead.
- You don't have to wait! Up to three large household items can be dropped off for free at the Waste Reduction Center. (Stay tuned for 2022 Pop-Up Drop-Off dates!)
Residents serviced by private companies should check with those companies for container repairs and large item collection information.

Click the map for a detailed view of Alley Area G. The Alley Action Clean-up initiative follows the same rotational format as the Large Item Pick-Up events (A,B,C, etc.), but due to its more involved nature, Alley Action, may be taking place in different areas as Large Item Pick-Up on a given week. Once a given alley area has been completed, a new area will be announced in the Works Week.
