Neighbors,
Today begins what may be several days of winter weather. If the forecasts hold, Louisville will be hit with a cold mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain followed by prolonged cold temperatures.
Under these circumstances many roads may be dangerous or impassable, with power outages occurring across our city. Please be prepared for the worst as we all hope for the best.
The best thing you can do is to travel as little as possible, working from home if you can. The Mayor has asked employers to give as much flexibility as possible for today and Friday.
City crews are working around the clock to have supplies ready and begin salting the roads before the weather strikes. Because of the long rain before this storm, they won't be able to lay down the usual brine for pre-treating roads until the rain stops.
Due to ice weighing down power lines and tree limbs, LG&E is standing by, reading to start repairs as soon as possible. The large amount of ice predicted could lead to power outages.
