Chase Gavin's - Coat-A-Kid Drive Success 2021

dfsfdasfdSADasda

Councilwoman Amy Holton Stewart (D-25) and Senator David Yates (D) announced Friday during a press conference that the Chase Gavin’s Coat-A-Kid Drive collected more than 300 coats this year.

In 2017, then former Councilman Yates started collecting winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves to donate to JCSP students in need each winter. The coat drive was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, but Senator Yates and Councilwoman Holton Stewart made sure the tradition would continue.

Over the last few weeks, more than 300 donations were made to the coat drive and thousands of dollars have been raised.

“As a former Family Resource & Youth Service Center Coordinator for JCPS I know how important it is to have a warm coat available for a child that comes to school without one.,” said Councilwoman Holton Stewart. “This year’s drive is especially important to District 25 as we celebrate the life of Chase Gavin, a young man that helped make this drive successful in the past. In Chase’s memory we have collected monetary and coat donations to support children throughout our city.”

This was the first year the Coat-A-Kid Drive was named in honor of Chase Gavin, the former Staff Assistant for District 25. Gavin, who passed away earlier this year, worked diligently to make the coat drive a community-wide success in 2018 and 2019. Chase’s Uncle, Nathan Morgan, a father-figure to Chase, joined this year’s mission by donating in Chase’s name. Several community members helped pitch in to raise over $3,000 for this year’s drive.

“The coat drive is about so much more than just helping children stay warm. It’s a chance for our community to show compassion to our children and for each child in need to receive something nice and new; something just for them,” said Senator Yates.

Shirley’s Way, a Louisville organization that provides financial support to those battling cancer and other diseases, is sponsoring the coat drive. Councilwoman Holton Stewart and Senator Yates thanked Mike Mulrooney, the founder of Shirley’s Way, for being such a wonderful community partner and making this happen. Shirley’s Way hosted a donation website and collected the coats over the course of the season.

This year’s donated coats will be divided among the Southwest JCPS schools based on the needs expressed by the Family Resource & Youth Services Coordinators. Any remaining coats will go to the JCPS Clothing Assistance Program and will be distributed to schools outside of the Southwest Louisville community.

Chase Gavin’s Coat-A-Kid Drive will still be accepting donations after Friday to ensure every child in need has a coat this season.

Hardwood Forest Drive Road Repair

dfasfsdafsadffdsa

As part of the road repair, LG&E will be relocating the gas line from the downhill side of the road to the uphill side. The relocation will be where the existing sidewalk is now, from approximately the hydrant at the bottom of the slide up to near the uphill end of the guardrail.

Unfortunately, the sidewalk will be removed and it will not be replaced until the project is completed, as they will need this area to shift traffic once the slide arrest operations begin.

This relocation will start Monday, December 13th and should be complete by Thursday the 23rd.  MAC Construction, Miller Pipeline, and others will be on site. Please expect periodic times of flagged traffic in a one lane configuration.

Get Ready to Vote in 2022

asdfsfdsfdafd

There were no regular elections in Kentucky in 2021 but there will be plenty to vote for next year.

Kentucky has closed primaries, so a person can only vote in a primary election for the candidates of the party in which they are registered. Independents will only be able to vote in the May primary for non-partisan races, such as judicial races.

If you want to participate in primary elections for partisan races on May 17, you must be registered with that political party affiliation by December 31, 2021.
