Back by popular demand! Last year I hosted two free shredding events that were very popular. Since that time, I have received numerous requests to host more this year. I am happy to announce that I have scheduled two shredding events for 2021. Like last year, this will be a no contact event so residents can remain in their vehicle while volunteers remove documents needing shredding from your trunk or rear seat. Our contracted business, All-Shred, is also committed to taking the necessary precautions to keeping everyone safe by wearing masks and gloves while collecting the materials to be shredded. Your confidential documents will be shredded onsite and then taken to a recycling facility. There is no limit to the number of personal documents that you may bring; however, no businesses are allowed. Both events will be held at Hunsinger Lane Baptist Church, 3400 Summerfield Dr.
The dates are:
- Saturday, August 21st, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
What cannot be shredded?
- anything containing metal like 3-ring clip binders (staples can be shredded)
- electronic items
- anything plastic like Kroger plastic shopping bags excluding credit cards (credit cards can be shredded)
- extremely hard plastics items
- anything possibly containing magnets
- matches, lighters or anything flammable including batteries
- fabric materials like shirts and hats

In response to new guidelines recently released by Louisville Metro Government, the Zoo will be requiring masks inside of buildings including Gorilla Forest, the Islands, HerpAquarium, MetaZoo, African Outpost and the Zoo’s gift shops effective Monday, August 2, 2021.
This metro change is due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases driven by the highly contagious Delta variant. The new policy applies to every person regardless of vaccination status.
Guests outside of Zoo buildings do not have to wear masks but are encouraged to social distance. The Zoo has disposable masks available for guests.
Louisville Zoo hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (enjoy until 6 p.m.) through September 19, 2021.

The Louisville MSD Urban Reforestation Grants Program is now accepting applications for tree planting projects. Grants will pay for trees planted within the MSD Drainage Service area, which includes all of Jefferson County except for the cities of Shively, Jeffersontown, St. Matthews and Anchorage. Download the application here Urban Reforestation Grant Application or at https://louisvillemsd.org/trees. The application deadline is Wednesday September 15th at 5pm ET. Please contact Jennifer Kern at Jennifer.Kern@LouisvilleMSD.org or (502)540‐6241 with any questions.
The MSD Urban Reforestation Program plants 1,000 trees annually by working with local residents, businesses, municipal organizations and neighborhood associations. These trees redirect an average of 1.35 million gallons of stormwater away from the sewer system every year, which decreases sewer overflows into our waterways. By planting more trees, MSD not only absorbs stormwater but also reduces erosion and flooding, provides shade, reduces noise pollution and carbon dioxide in the air, and provides a habitat for nearby wildlife.
