VACCINATED PEOPLE CAN STILL TRANSMIT THE VIRUS

crrr

Vaccinated People Can Still Transmit the Covid Virus, Including the Delta Variant Strain

According to CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the rapid rise of the delta variant is very troubling.

The more transmissible delta variant is now the most dominant strain of the coronavirus in the United States, representing over 50% of cases across the country, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wednesday.

“It’s feasible that a fully vaccinated person can be an asymptomatic carrier of Covid, and potentially transmit the virus, including the more contagious delta variant,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said during an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on July 4, 2021.

″We are looking at situations where you have vaccinated people who have breakthrough infections. Namely, they are infected despite the fact that they've been vaccinated," the White House chief medical advisor told Chuck Todd.

Lawrence Gostin, director of the WHO’s Collaborating Center on National and Global Health Law, told CNBC that there could be “major outbreaks” in the fall, just as many people are going back to offices and schools.

According to experts, mitigation measures, such as wearing masks and occupancy limits, will likely return by fall in certain places where there is a high level of transmission and low vaccination rates.

Ultimately, returning to in-person work comes with risks that individuals and businesses will have to navigate.

The CDC and the White House have said that they will leave it to individual communities and states to make decisions about safety measures depending upon the level of spread and vaccination in a community.

Delta Could Affect Kids’ Return to School

The delta variant poses a particular threat to young people. Covid vaccines are not yet authorized for children under 12 years old, which puts many school-aged children at higher risk of infection. In the United Kingdom, 90% of Covid cases in June were attributed to the delta variant, with the highest prevalence among children ages 5 to 12.

“Pediatricians worry that if the delta variant spreads further, it could lead to schools not reopening, sports and camps being closed, and all of that having an adverse effect on the mental health of children,” says Dr. Steven Abelowitz, a board-certified pediatrician and medical director and president of Coastal Kids pediatric medical group.

Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said that he thinks safety measures such as masking and social distancing might be necessary in schools come fall and winter.

Being fully vaccinated doesn't mean you cannot still contract and/or transmit the Covid virus or the more transmissible delta strain.

THE GOOD, THE BAD OR THE UGLY

gbug

Bryson Kliemann with his best buddy, Bruce

The Good, the Bad or the Ugly is a new series to the Council Chronicle that offers a glimpse at unusual stories in the news around in the world. They are intended to provoke thought, inform and elicit a range of emotions from joy, outrage, amusement, hope or anger. These are a summarization of stories worth knowing. Each month we will feature a story of the Good, the Bad or the Ugly around the globe. If you come across a news item that falls into either of these categories, please email it to me for possible inclusion in the monthly e-newsletter.

THE GOOD

Bryson Kliemann, 8, sold his most precious possessions, his beloved collection of Pokémon cards that he had been collecting for half his life to save the life of his best friend, a dog named Bruce. The four-month-old puppy was stricken with Parvo and needed expensive, life-saving treatment which his family could not afford. Word spread of the little boy's plight in his hometown of Lebanon, Virginia and neighbors began donating, a GoFundMe page was set up and a news article was written. His story received national attention and people all over the world donated for Bruce's treatment.

Bryson's family have received words of support from places as far away as China, Ireland and Australia. As of June, 10, 2021 the GoFundMe for Bruce's medical treatment has raised over $19,500. The family decided to donate the extra money to local shelters and animal hospitals. They have also used the money to help four other families struggling to pay veterinary bills for their furry family members.

As a result of this little boy's love for his best friend, Bruce and his selflessness, many dogs will be saved by using these generous donations from around the world to help one little boy in Virginia save his puppy.

Bruce is doing well and is back to his old self after his medical treatments. Bryce's mom, Kimberly Woodruff said, "I never expected any of this. It's given me hope for humanity. To see people come together like this to help my little boy was just beautiful."

This is definitely a feel-GOOD story.

Bruce, feeling all better.

THE CLINGY PET CHALLENGE

cpm

Rusty & Sadie urging their mom to get off the phone.

The Clingy Pet Challenge began circulating on social media several months ago. The goal of the challenge is to show the clinginess of your pet in a photo. We received so many great entries to the challenge that I could not pick just one. We will feature a new "clingy" fur baby each month.

It's not too late to feature your canine or feline kids in an upcoming edition of Council Chronicle’s Clingy Pet Challenge. To participate, please submit a good quality color picture of you or a family member with your pet via email in jpeg form. Please include your fur baby’s name.

Pictured above is Rusty LaRue & Sadie Mae, Erica Turner's canine kids. Rusty is an eight year old, extra large Jack Russell Terror Terrier and Sadie is a three year old Cairnoodle. That's a Miniature Poodle and Cairn Terrier mix to those who are unfamiliar with the name. They are now called designer breeds but back in the day these types are dogs were known as mutts. Both Rusty and Sadie are rescues.

"Rusty is a big ole Momma's Boy and has to escort me everywhere I go in the house, including late night trips to the restroom," Turner says with an eye roll.

Rusty has called the Turner household home for five years and Sadie was adopted less than three months ago. He loves cuddling with his mom on the couch, eating just about anything, most especially Sadie's food whenever he's able to sneak it. Rusty loves hugs. He also enjoys doing his "Cujo" impersonation whenever anyone comes within 100 feet of his house.

Sadie loves curling up on the couch, growling at her reflection in the mirror and grunting like an old man when she gets her back or belly rubbed. Another of her favorite things to do is rub her face on her person's shirt, especially after she's eaten. She also enjoys being carried up and down the stairs even though she can navigate  them much quicker and easier than her mom.

Turner said, "Sadie has adapted quite quickly and fits seamlessly into our family. She's a funny little girl who had a rough start in life before she came to us. Now, she's loved and treated like a princess."

Sadie loves her big brother and mimics him in everything. Rusty takes his guard dog duties very seriously and is extremely protective of his mom and sister. Both of these fur babies bring endless joy, laughter and love to their mom's life. She would be absolutely lost without her canine kids.

"My babies stick to me like flypaper. They become especially attentive when I am trying to work on my laptop, read a book or talk on the telephone as you can see in the pictures," Turner laughingly said.

Sadie Mae is not quite as clingy as her big brother, Rusty LaRue, but she's fast becoming her mom's little furry white shadow.

scup

"I call my canine kids 'my little stalkers'. It's a gratifying feeling when I pull up to my house, get out of the car and hear them barking and howling inside because they know their momma is home. It never fails to put a smile on my face. Coming home to Rusty and Sadie is the highlight of my day," Turner said.

rbbk

Rusty LaRue refuses to let his mom read in peace. Even if that means he has to lay his big head on her book, stare at her and whine until she pets him.

DEVILED EGG PASTA SALAD

DEVILED EGG PASTA SALAD

This recipe combines two classic favorites into one crowd-pleasing side dish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 oz. Gemelli pasta (about 2 ½ cups)

  • 8  Eggs

  • 1 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp. Dijon mustard

  • 2 tbsp. coarse grain mustard

  • 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar

  • 2 tsp. sugar

  • 3  medium celery stalks along with leaves, sliced thinly and leaves coarsely chopped

  • 1  small fennel along with fronds, trimmed and shaved thinly

  • 1/4  small red onion, diced

  • Kosher salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • Sliced scallions for garnishing

  • Paprika for garnishing

DIRECTIONS

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta according to the package for al dente. Drain, rinse under cold water and refrigerate until ready to use.

  2. In a large pot, place eggs in a single layer and cover with cold water. Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, turn off heat, cover and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Drain eggs and transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop eggs from cooking further. Peel eggs and slice each in half lengthwise. Separate yolks and whites from 8 egg halves and place in a large bowl. Roughly chop reserved egg whites and remaining egg halves into about ½” pieces, set aside.

  3. In the bowl with the egg yolks, add mayo, mustard, vinegar, and sugar. Mash and mix with a fork until smooth, breaking up any lumps. Fold in chilled pasta, celery, celery leaves, fennel, fennel fronds, onions, chopped eggs and season with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with sliced scallions and sprinkle with paprika. Enjoy.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?

ABYP

This little ballerina is Aby, Sonya Harward's granddaughter.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?

What makes you happy? Is it a person, place or thing? A group of people, a pet, a home, a beautiful sunset, a favorite flower, favorite color, favorite song, etc. What one thing never fails to put a smile on your face and happiness in your heart? What makes you feel grateful and blessed?

Sonya Harward says that what makes her so very happy are her grandbabies, Aby and Langston.

"My granddaughter, Aby, and her curtsy during her recital in May made me extremely happy…not only because this child is too precious (her little fingers get me every time) but also because she did a great job and stayed very focused on her teacher’s instructions during her dances," Harward said.

Harward also said, "Langston, my grandson, whose shy sweetness is simply fabulous and makes me extremely happy as well."

Could Langston BE any cuter in his little suit? Impossible.

Thank you, Sonya for sharing what makes you happy with the Council Chronicle. Your grandchildren are simply adorable and I'm sure they will bring you much happiness as you watch them grow up in the years to come.
