The Louisville Metro Council has approved a $1.04 billion budget for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2022 that is focused on making Louisville more equitable, reimagining public safety and rebuilding the city’s economy post-COVID. Some budget highlights are:
- Quadruples investment in violence prevention
- Provides over $55 million for paving, sidewalk repairs and other infrastructure needs
- Provides for up to $10 million for new West End Louisville Partnership;
- $10 million to Affordable Housing Trust Fund;
- $3 million in down payment assistance; and
- $3 million for Evolve502 promise scholarships
- $6.5 million in housing and support services through the Office of Resilience and Community Services, including External Agency and Emergency Solutions Grant funds; around $1 million to house homeless people struggling with AIDS, and another $200,000 for Housing Connection funding to Neighborhood Place for helping people experiencing homelessness. That’s in addition to the $1.7 million directed toward Homeless and Housing Services as part of the midyear budget adjustment in January, and $11 million from the S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program that the city will use to create more affordable housing options and services for people who are homeless or at risk
- Also as part of this budget, the Louisville Free Public Library will stop collecting fines for overdue books and materials, citing information that shows young people and communities of color are hurt the most by the fines, left unable to utilize a critical resource.

Golf
This beautiful 9-hole course is named for Louisvillian and PGA professional Bobby Nichols. It has rolling terrain with tree-lined fairways and large, bunkered greens. The course tests your proficiency with irons and rewards a straight tee shot (as Nichols Creek is in play on eight holes). It is located in Waverly Park, which has an archery range, fishing lake, and hiking/mountain biking trails for family activities. The Pro Shop has full concessions. No club rental is available.
FootGolf
Bobby Nichols is Louisville's first certified public FootGolf course. Footgolf is played as it sounds, as participants start each hole from a teeing area with a #5 soccer ball and kick to a green with a hole that's 21 inches in diameter. The game is played at a quicker pace than regular golf, with an hour for every 9 holes as the average playing time. Bobby Nichols is a 9-hole course, so most of the regular holes on the course have two footgolf holes or more on them.
Golfers should wear flat sole shoes, tennis shoes or turf shoes. Soccer cleats are not allowed. Regular greens fees apply, and golf cart rentals are available. In addition, soccer balls can be rented for $2 per round at the course. The course will not open until after noon on weekends and holidays but will be available all hours during weekdays.
