Letter from Councilwoman Purvis

Hello District 5!

June is here, school is out, and summer is in the plans!  This gives us a few opportunities to become engaged and get involved.  Listed are some things that I would encourage and like to see happen:

Neighborhood Block Watches - this is real easy and simple to do.  All it takes is a few neighbors who are concerned about their living conditions, whether it's vacant homes, trash, safety concerns, whatever you want to see change, let these concerns drive you to unite with your neighbors and form a block watch.  Where do I come in?  Once I am contacted, we set a date to meet to discuss these issues and work on a plan together to resolve them.  However, it's very important to keep the momentum going with a regular scheduled meeting afterwards with your neighbors and this can be monthly, quarterly, or whatever you desire.  Just give me a call at 438-7720 to schedule a meeting.

Neighborhood Clean Ups - I can't stress this enough the importance of keeping your street clean of trash, debris, tires, etc.  I make myself available to help and assist in these clean ups and I can provide the tools.  Just give me a call at 438-7720 to schedule a clean up date and time.

Last, this is the birthday weekend for Breonna Taylor!  Let's keep her memory going by visiting Lannan Park to see the beautiful mural of her created on the new regulated size basketball court!  This court will bring opportunities for basketball tournaments while our youth can showcase their athletic talents. This is an added plus to the great little league baseball teams that are already housed in this beautiful park. Last, there are other recreational amenities in the park for others to enjoy as well.

Have a great summer!
