LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 11, 2021) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of the scheduled closure of a portion of I-64 in Jefferson County next week. The interstate will be closed for two nights for the routine inspection of the Cochran Hill Tunnels (mile marker 8.4). KYTC engineers will be performing the biennial in-depth inspection of various components in the tunnel. During both closures, crews will also be performing bridge deck patching and rail mowing.
I-64 West will be closed from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12. Motorists traveling on I-64 West should follow the signed detour via Cannons Lane (Exit 10) to Lexington Road to Grinstead Drive and reconnect with I-64.
Inspection will begin at the I-64 East tunnel on Wednesday, May 12. Closure of the interstate will start at 11 p.m. All lanes of I-64 East will reopen by 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 13. Motorists traveling on I-64 East should follow the signed detour via Grinstead Drive (Exit 8) to Lexington Road to Cannons Lane and reconnect with I-64.
