Lower Hunters Trace Paving - Closures Expected April 12 & 13

road work ahead

In anticipation of re-paving, Lower Hunters Trace will be shutting down between Sky Blue Avenue and Cane Run Road on Tuesday and Wednesday (4/13 and 4/14)  to complete roadway repairs in preparation for repaving of the roadway.  The closures are anticipated to last from 9AM to 3PM on those days.  Message Boards have been placed on Lower Hunters to notify of the pending closures next week.  Once this work is completed, the contractor will begin milling and paving activities in which we will maintain traffic with flaggers and other traffic controls per the MUTCD.  Milling and paving work is anticipated to conclude on April 23, pending weather or equipment failures.

Clean Collaborative Will Address Litter Year-Round

Clean Collab

Louisville Metro's new Clean Collaborative initiative will improve the community's overall cleanliness. The collaborative brings together stakeholders from across Louisville Metro to coordinate and maximize cleaning efforts. These stakeholders include:

  • Louisville Metro Public Works & Assets, which has worked on many cleanliness efforts such as urban and suburban street sweeping, litter hotspot cleanings, homeless camp cleanings, and more.
  • Brightside and its volunteer community cleanups and anti-litter messaging.
  • Louisville Downtown Partnership, which assists in maintaining the cleanliness in the downtown area.
  • Louisville Metro Codes & Regulations and its Vacant Lots Team.
  • Louisville Waste Management District, which annually receives $380,000 in grant funding to provide extra litter collection along the interstates during the winter, inmate litter collection programs, supplies for litter cleanup events, and anti-litter education through Brightside.

A significant part of the Clean Collaborative is to assess the level of cleanliness along major arterial roadways. Assessments began in February of 2021 and will continue throughout the initiative. Cleanliness scores can be found on the Cleanliness Assessment Map. Blue lines indicate routes that will be assessed in the future.

The Collaborative launched with $1.5 million in funding from Metro Council to increase staffing and purchase equipment for cleanups, street sweeping, graffiti removal and vacant lots mowing.

The 13-person crew and their equipment were first deployed in February and thus far have cleaned 376 curb miles and collected 2,200 bags, removing 96 tons of litter from Metro’s roadways.

There are several ways for residents to get involved in this cleanliness effort.

  • Choose not to litter and make a commitment to always dispose of trash properly.
  • Understand litter laws in Louisville and pick up litter when it’s spotted.
  • Report a litterer online.
  • Organize a neighborhood cleanup with Brightside.
  • Only set out junk or bulk items during its scheduled set out period.

Residents also are encouraged to track the crew’s progress by visiting a new interactive online dashboard. The dashboard is updated daily and shows data on curb miles cleaned, tires collected, total bags of litter and other items collected, and additional cleanliness activities.

To learn more about the collaborative and how you can help, visit louisvilleky.gov/cleanlou. For residents who would like to track the crews’ progress, please visit the Interactive Data Dashboard.

FREE Tax Preparation Now Available for Louisville Residents through VITA

The Louisville Asset Building Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, and AARP Tax Aide programs provide trained, IRS-certified volunteers to offer free tax services via online or at select drop-off sites. UPDATE: COVID Vaccines for Phase 1C Now Available

Shot of relief

As of Monday, March 15, people in Tier 1C (individuals ages 16-59 who have qualifying medical conditions and essential employees) are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in Louisville. LouVax, the vaccination site at Broadbent Arena, will continue prioritization of individuals ages 60 and up.

Essential employers who would like to help their employees receive vaccinations can submit a form through Metro Public Health and Wellness. The form should only be completed by human resource managers or senior leaders and not by individual employees.

Below are links to websites for waitlists, information and appointments. Due to available supply, appointments are limited. It may take several weeks to get an appointment. After hearing from many people since March 1, my advice is to keep trying.  I wish we had a better, more centralized system but people are getting appointments by continuing to check these websites.

Norton is creating a waitlist and some individuals on it are being contacted to receive vaccinations at the LouVAX site at Broadbent Arena (shown below).
