COVID-19 Vaccine Sign-Up for Phase 1B - First Responders & People Aged 70+

This includes: nonmedical first responders such as police and fire; corrections workers, education – grades K-12 as well as pre-K educators located in a school, people 70 and older.

If you are a nonmedical first responder, work in corrections or education (K-12), your appointment will be scheduled through your employer. You do not need to take any additional action.

Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 will allow us to worship together, reopen schools, and return to work in person. Choosing to be vaccinated helps you and your loved ones stay safe. It helps our community’s most vulnerable members to be protected against this pandemic and the social isolation that comes along with it.

COVID-19 is still spreading in our city. We are experiencing a record number of cases, and, unfortunately, deaths. Until most of us can be vaccinated, wearing a mask and keeping our distance and limiting where we go is still essential to protecting ourselves, our families, and our communities. Even as we celebrate the development of safe and effective vaccines, these safety measures - including staying home when you may be sick - remain crucial parts of our effort to eliminate this pandemic

Volunteers

WE NEED YOU! We began administering Moderna vaccines at Broadbent Arena on January 4th. We need volunteers to assist. All are welcome – not just clinical volunteers like nurses (but we need those too)!

Who can help? Volunteers must be 18 years or older and submit to a background check.

What will I be doing? Administering injections is limited to licensed clinicians only, but there are roles for everyone, including greeters, check-in staff, support staff, observing patients, and more!

Can I get a vaccine? Those who serve 40 hours or more will be eligible to receive COVID vaccination from LouVax.

Bridge Replacement Taking Place on South Watterson Trail in Jefferson County

Bridge closed for 60 days during project

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 7, 2021) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of work to replace the bridge on South Watterson Trail over Fern Creek in Jefferson County. The structure is closed and will remain shut down to traffic for 60 days as work on the project is complete. The project was scheduled to begin in the fall but was postponed due to contractor delays. Motorists can detour the area via KY 1747 (South Hurstbourne Parkway) and U.S. 31 E (Bardstown Road).

This bridge replacement is part of a multi-project contract awarded to Louisville Paving and Construction. The cost of the replacement is $673,991. This project is part of KYTC’s Bridging Kentucky Program, which is a commitment to improving the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth’s bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing critical bridges throughout the state. The program is designed to open closed structures, improve bridge lifespans, ensure appropriate weight capacities are met and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians.

A Message From the Friends of the Fern Creek Library

As with every community group, Friends of the Fern Creek Library have found ways to serve during this unprecedented time of COVID 19. We currently help supply three little libraries with books. The Friends of the Fern Creek Library, Fern Creek Woman’s Club, and Next Gen Leadership (Fern Creek High School) donated a Little Free Library on the grounds of FCCACC. This Little Library contains books for all ages of readers. We encourage you to stop by and take a book home to enjoy. We have supplied books for individuals when requested, leaving them in a bag outside of their homes. We are continuing to partner with Next Gen Leadership to provide literacy events online through the leadership of a Fern Creek High School teacher, Heather Jones. At this time, we are not accepting donations of books because we are unable to host Library Day due to the pandemic. If you need books for your library at home or for assisted living facilities with libraries, please contact us at ferncreekfriends19@gmail.com. A book can be that currently impossible vacation, an opportunity to learn something new, or an old beloved friend through a reread of a favorite book. Let us know if we can help you with books for your children. We can’t wait to see you again when Library Day can reopen, but in the meantime, we are still here for you!
