South Park Road Repairs

A Roads & Operations West District crew, works to repair a damaged guardrail on South Park Rd. in Southern Jefferson County. The work, which took place last week is the result of our team's quick response and commitment to ensuring commuter safety by removing the danger posed by a missing guardrail section that had been damaged during a crash earlier in the day. The crew consisted of: Greg Hicks, Frankie Campbell, Lisa Shrewsbury, DeVante Lewis, and Bryan Woodruff.

Public Feedback Sought on Proposed I-65/I-264 Interchange Improvement Strategies

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is seeking public input for a planning study of the I-65/I-264 interchange in Jefferson County. The project team has proposed seven short-term and three long-term improvement strategies to be reviewed and prioritized.

The public is encouraged to fill out a questionnaire sharing their comments and priorities at bit.ly/AirportInterchange. Responses will be accepted through November 22nd.

Public input sought from Kentuckians on the state’s public involvement process used to identify and plan for statewide transportation projects.

Comments are welcome from members of the public between Friday, Oct. 30, 2020 through Dec. 15, 2020. A draft of the Public Involvement Process can be found online here or on transportation.ky.gov. The public is invited to submit comments through a short confidential survey available on the website. 

“The goal of the Public Involvement Process is to give Kentuckians a chance to weigh in on the process used to identify, invite, inform and involve the public in transportation planning,” said Transportation Secretary Jim Gray. “Every road we construct and bridge we build improves the quality of life in communities across the state so getting input from the people we impact is valuable.”

Leaf Drop Off

Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste. Mulching not only returns vital nutrients to the soil, but experts say that it can help your grass grow even better the following year!

The Metro Public Works free leaf drop-off sites will be open Tuesday-Saturdays, November 10 through December 12. Drop-off will not be available on November 26 and 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only loose leaves will be accepted. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be disposed of off-site by residents.

JCPS Meal Pick-Up Schedule Changing in November

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) meal sites will undergo several scheduling changes in November in observance of holidays:

• The new evening pick-up time will be 3 - 5 p.m. instead of 4 - 6 p.m. at the eight sites currently offering evening meal distribution:
• Butler Traditional High School
• Carrithers Middle School
• Eastern High School
• Greathouse Shryock Traditional Elementary School
• Male High School
• Seneca High School
• Valley High School
• Westport Middle School
• Roosevelt-Perry Elementary School will resume evening pick up on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
• Farnsley Elementary School will no longer offer evening meals.

On Thursday, Nov. 19, JCPS Nutritional Services will distribute a special Thanksgiving meal and on Tuesday, Nov. 24, families will receive five of each meal for every child to cover them for the holiday break.

Since Sept. 1, the 130 meal sites at schools across the district have served an average of 16,800 children each Tuesday and Thursday. The number of children served has steadily increased each week

The IRS has determined that there are thousands of individuals in Jefferson County who are eligible for the IRS Economic Impact Payment (stimulus payment) but who have not yet received this payment.   The deadline for tax “non-filers” to apply for the payment is Saturday, November 21.   More information can be found here.

Kentucky Shakespeare’s 2020 annual spring parks tour was canceled due to COVID-19 but was remounted for one performance only, filmed on the Central Park stage in August, made possible by Louisville Metro Council Members and LG&E. Following Governor Beshear's executive order earlier this month for stopping utility shutoffs, Louisville's largest utility companies met before a Metro Council to outline how they plan on providing relief for customers behind on their bills.

The Louisville Water Cmpany will not be enforcing shutoffs or charging late payments until Jan. 1, 2021, Executive Vice President Dave Vogel said. Vogel encouraged customers behind on their payments to reach out to the company to set up a payment plan.

MSD's bills often appear alongside the water company's, so it will be working with Louisville Water on many of its policies.  Louisville MSD is taking steps to assist our customers who may be facing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are temporarily waiving new late fees for customers who are having difficulty paying their billing charges incurred during this time. Additionally, during this crisis, Louisville Water will not turn-off water service to customers who fall behind in their payments.

These are temporary measures and customers are still responsible for paying their Louisville Water and MSD bill. It is important to contact Louisville Water at 502.583.6610 or MSD at 502.540.6000 if you are having trouble paying your bill.  

With one in three Kentuckians out of work because of the coronavirus, many in our community face anxieties around paying bills and affording basic necessities.

COVID-19 Policies: Staff will wear personal protective equipment, including face coverings, and will stay at least 6 feet away from citizens. Citizens should remain in their vehicle if possible and must wear a face covering if exiting their vehicle.
