+ Governor urges counties in the red zone to follow recommendations to stop COVID spread
Gov. Andy Beshear this week issued new recommendations to stop COVID-19 spread and protect Kentuckians in the 55 counties currently in the red zone, including Jefferson County.
“Every Kentuckian in a red zone county needs to work together to protect one another by following these recommendations,” Gov. Beshear said. “Now is not the time to give up – this is a time when more people are going to be at risk. It is a time when we need everyone to do better.”
Red zone counties are those with 25 or more average daily cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents. The Governor said when a county turns red, we are already asking schools to go virtual, we ask for sports to pause and we restrict visitation in long-term care facilities.
Red Zone Reduction Recommendations:
- Employers should allow employees to work from home when possible
- Government offices that do not provide critical services need to operate virtually
- Reduce in-person shopping; order online or pickup curbside as much as possible
- Order take-out; avoid dining in restaurants or bars
- Prioritize businesses that follow and enforce the mask mandate and other guidelines
- Reschedule, postpone or cancel public events
- Do not host or attend gatherings of any size
- Avoid non-essential activities outside your home
- Reduce overall activity and contacts, and follow existing guidance, including the 10 Steps to Defeat COVID-19

+Beware of scammers posing as LG&E
LG&E is warning consumers of a sophisticated scam working its way through the community. Scammers have been threatening to shut off consumers' utilities, and then minutes later, someone posing as an LG&E employee has showed up to service their home.
LG&E said it’s a way for scammers to get money from consumers by asking for payments over the phone. They’re not just tricking customers, they’re tricking LG&E too.
Here are some red flags to look for. The scammer will:
- Tell customers their account is past due and require immediate payment by a prepaid debit/gift card or payment app like Cash App or Venmo through a smartphone. If you receive a call, it’s likely a scam.
- Show up to your home or business unannounced without proper identification and claim to be a representative of LG&E, KU or ODP.
- Provide a fake account number in hopes you don’t remember or can’t locate your real account number.
If this happens to you, LG&E recommends calling them directly and never make any kind of payment over the phone.

+ Louisville Metro working on alternative to annual "Light Up Louisville"
The annual Light Up Louisville event will not take place in the same way it has for the last 40 years.
"At a time when the number of COVID-19 cases are going up, we cannot bring hundreds of thousands downtown for the traditional Light Up," said Jean Porter, a spokeswoman for Mayor Greg Fischer. "We are working on an alternative for this fun annual, family-friendly event, and we will announce it as soon as it’s finalized."
Details for the alternative event have not been finalized. Historically, Light Up Louisville has included the lighting of a large tree, fireworks, pictures with Santa and a parade that includes carolers, floats and bands.
