Area man "caught" beautifying property

Benny Dunning

District 10 Legislative Assistant Geoff Wohl “caught” Benny Dunning weeding the beautiful landscaping in front of Oscar’s Hardware store this week.

Benny is an amateur gardener who remembers a time when all of the nearby properties along Burnett were overflowing with color from the flowers planted there.

The conversation reminded Geoff of cutting grass for Mrs. Darst on East Burnett many years ago. She was in her 90’s and her yard was beautiful with color. She worked for several hours each day during the growing season with her stool and her straw hat. Then after a nap, she spent several hours playing her piano. She sounds like a great neighbor.

Take time to enjoy the beautiful plantings at the corner of East Burnett and Shelby Street, and perhaps consider beautifying an area for others to enjoy.

Thanks to the folks at Oscar’s and to Benny Dunning for this bright spot in District 10. By the way, Benny said there is a surprise coming for this location in several weeks...

Jefferson County Public Schools broke ground Tuesday for a new elementary school in the Newburg neighborhood. The $16.5M, 82,000 square-foot school is being built behind Indian Trail Elementary school on land owned by JCPS. Once the new school is built, Indian Trail Elementary will be torn down.
