Louisville Metro is Hiring an Energy Manager!

Louisville Metro Government is adding an Energy Manager to its team to help move Louisville into its clean energy future! Essential functions will include creating and implementing energy conservation measures, developing and implementing renewable energy projects, and managing energy contracts with outside agencies.

Applicants must be a Certified Energy Manager (or have a similar certification) with five or more years of related experience to be eligible.

2020 Louisville Sustainability Summit

The 2020 Louisville Sustainability Summit is going virtual this year! The event will be held on Thursday, November 12th from 11:00- 4:30pm and will focus on equity, inclusion, and education. The theme of the summit is Climate CrXssroads: Exploring the Intersection on Climate Change and Social Justice and will feature guest speaker, Charles Booker.

The 2020 Summit will provide a platform for local, regional, and national speakers with diverse backgrounds and expertise, specifically highlighting women and experts of color. This will be a space for unpacking and understanding through productive, progressive conversation followed by action steps you can take today.

Cool Roof Rebates Still Available!

The Office of Advanced Planning and Sustainability's Cool Roof Rebate Program still has funding available for properties located in targeted high-heat areas, including Metro Council Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 14 and 15. The program aims to combat urban warming and reduce cooling costs for districts significantly impacted by Louisville's urban heat island.  The rebate provides up to $1 per square foot of cool roof that is installed with an ENERGY STAR roofing product. Rebates are available for both residential and commercial buildings and offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Louisville Grows Plant 5K

Plant 5K

Get ready for Louisville Grows’ inaugural PLANT 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, September 19th, 2020!

This inaugural 5K event will support Louisville Grows’ mission to grow greener, healthier neighborhoods by reducing the urban heat-island effect, increasing our community’s urban tree canopy, and supporting recreation along shady routes that tree planting can create!

Louisville Earth Walk 

Earth walk

The Louisville Earth Walk, a non-competitive community event including a live 5k walk, at-home participation and virtual programming, is moving to Cherokee Park for its fourth year on Saturday, October 24th, 2020

We invite you to join in support of a city-wide vision where every neighborhood has safe and clean water, air, and soil.  This family-friendly event will celebrate our beautiful planet while raising both awareness and funds for the wonderful organizations in our city that work to protect and improve the quality of life for all of us.

River Heritage Conservancy Park Rollout

River Heritage Conservancy

For the last two years, River Heritage Conservancy has been working on a bold plan to repurpose over 400 acres of riverfront and brownfield land to an iconic public landscape along the Ohio River’s north shore. Origin Park, as it was thoughtfully named, will embrace the unpredictable nature of the Ohio River and become the "origin" of a new healthier, livable, and diverse community. 

To celebrate the park's unveiling, River Heritage Conservancy and the park's designers held a virtual event on August 27th to reveal the plan for the months ahead. To watch the recording, click here

leed for cities

Louisville is rated as a LEED City for its sustainability achievements. The rating was awarded in November 2018 by U.S. Green Building Council when the STAR Community Rating System was fully integrated into LEED for Cities and Communities certification programs.
