Public Safety, Infrastructure, Investigations and Community Service
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
There is so much to update you on so I am going to dive right into it.
First, I had a detailed and long conversation with an unnamed officer from LMPD yesterday. He described in painstaking detail LMPD’s plan to restore law and order particularly when the Attorney General makes his final determination regarding the Breonna Taylor case. I think it is safe to say that no matter what the Attorney General says, there will be people who will take advantage of that announcement to wreak havoc on our city. I am not speaking about those will want to make their voices heard. I am talking about those who are bent on anarchy and destruction of our society. Obviously I can’t reveal the details of the plan but I want to assure you that I was impressed with the comprehensiveness of it, and it is literally a plan that is ready for the worst case scenario. As the office said to me, he hopes that a bunch of officers will just be standing around picking daisies but they will be prepared to prevent what we have seen in other cities where things have gotten out of control. Please continue to join me in working toward justice and safety for all.
Related to the above, although I work hand-in-glove with our local 8th Division Major (a constituent), ultimately the Mayor is responsible for public safety and the leadership of the police department. I do my best to influence things and I will continue to do that but when you write to me about public safety concerns, I always advocate for you but I would also ask you write and call the Mayor to demand better leadership related to safety and security for our city. At the end of the day, I am a legislator and he is the Executive Branch.
