+ The Office for Globalization Welcomes the New Louisville Welcome Academy 2020 Cohort
The Louisville Welcome Academy is a free leadership training program sponsored by the Louisville Metro Government Office for Globalization. The mission is to build the knowledge and networks of foreign-born leaders to increase their capacity and become key stakeholders to empower and assist their communities.
“I have such a passion for the nations and people from the different cultures and backgrounds. I see myself as a bridge builder between different groups, cultures, races and the Welcome Academy sounds like the perfect place to apply my passion and my gifts and build greater leadership capacity in this arena.” – Birgit Zepf, LWA 2020 Cohort Participant
In order to practice social distancing and follow health and safety guidelines, only 11 participants have been selected for this year’s cohort. However, the group is highly diverse and represents the multiculturalism of the Louisville community including 10 nationalities and 17 languages – all with one common mission to make Louisville a more welcoming city for everyone.

+ The City Needs Your Help in Selecting the New LMPD Chief of Police
The city wants to hear your priorities as a member of the community for selecting the next permanent Chief of Police. A survey was created to gather that feedback – residents can complete it online or by telephone at (502) 528-3543.
While the survey is anonymous, you are required to provide your zip code. Questions asked include the following:
- What are the three most important qualities or skills you would like to see in the next police chief?
- What are your suggestions for improving police services?
- What would you like to see the next chief accomplish immediately? Over the next 2-3 years?
Mayor Fischer announced the city has hired the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a non-profit Washington, D.C. based police research organization to lead the search for the new Chief of Police. At the same time, PERF will survey LMPD employees by asking similar questions. The input of both the public and the department are important. The new Chief must be able to communicate and have trust with both the community and the police department.
