Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Good news is on the horizon.
Many people have been asking for a Civilian Review Board that would add a new layer of independent review to Louisville Metro Police Department policies and disciplinary matters. The overarching purpose of the Civilian Review Board is to investigate police shooting cases, incidents involving loss of life due to police action, abuse of authority, excessive use of force, and in-custody deaths.
Please join me in this process and inform yourself as we move forward together.
The Civilian Review Board Work Group was set up by Mayor Fischer to research, debate and recommend the best structure for a Civilian Review Board. A website has been created so the public can stay informed and share your thoughts and recommendations.
The website provides complete information of the work group’s discussions through the end of June. Navigation links on the page provide all the materials the group is reviewing. There are also video links for the public to watch the two meetings held by the group so far.

The Work Group has met twice and produced a summary report of work to date. To review the summary report click HERE.

The Work Group will sign-off on a DRAFT Ordinance. |

DRAFT Ordinance presented to President David James for Committee |

assignment. |

| August 20 |
Proposed date of first reading during New Business of Metro Council. The |

DRAFT Ordinance will be discussed in the assigned Council Committee. |

After the Ordinance is voted on by the Committee it will be sent to the full |

Metro Council for discussion and its final vote. Date to be determined. |

About the Civilian Review Board Work Group
The Work Group is comprised of 33 Louisvillians serving together. Its members include faith leaders, law enforcement representatives, community advocates and elected officials from across the Louisville community. The Work Group is co-chaired by Deputy Mayor Ellen Hesen and Councilwoman Paula McCraney, District 7.

View the Juneteenth Docuseries
Juneteenth is the oldest known holiday commemorating the end of American Slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation took effect January 1st, 1863; however, the last slaves were not freed until June 19, 1865, a full two and a half years later. Juneteenth is a holiday solely dedicated to celebrating the emancipation of slaves.
In commemoration of this historic day, Waterfront Park has partnered with Louisville Metro Council, The Black Community Development Corporation and Actor’s Theatre of Louisville to create a virtual celebration, the Juneteenth Jubilee 2020 Docuseries which will consist of seven (7) episodes.
