+ The Office for Globalization and community partners launch a campaign to promote face covering within Hispanic communities.
In collaboration with local non-profits, businesses and Spanish speaking media outlets, the Office for Globalization will launch the campaign "Todos con Cubrebocas" to promote face covering within the Hispanic community this Saturday, June 27. This collaborative effort is in response to the increasing number of positive cases within the Hispanic community and is aimed at reducing the spread of the COVID-19 among these disproportionately affected communities.
The campaign originally started with COVID-19 focused webinars offered entirely in Spanish by the Office for Globalization. Faith leaders, owners of Latino groceries stores, and the Spanish speaking media were part of the discussions and soon after joined efforts to help fight against misinformation.
These efforts have resulted in a Drive Around Tour to various Hispanic grocery stores throughout Louisville led by Spanish speaking media partners like Al Dia en America, Radio Poder and La Esquina. Along with the Office for Globalization, Spanish speaking media partners will be distributing face masks, donated by the City of Louisville, and hand sanitizers, donated by La Casita Center.
Most recently, the campaign has gone online! With the help of more Spanish speaking media, like Noti-Farandula and El Kentubano, the efforts only continue to grow as we increase the importance of face coverings and strategize to make this a normal practice in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Even our talented Spanish speaking artists are finding ways to get involved and support this message. Various artists have shared short 30-second videos, while others have created short 3-minute comedic plays.
Please consider joining us as we work together to continue keeping our economy open and our communities safe from COVID-19.

+ Mayor announces telephone line to help residents with survey on LMPD Chief hiring.
Mayor Greg Fischer announced the launch of a telephone option to help residents fill out a survey about their priorities for Louisville’s next permanent chief of police. Starting Thursday, June 25, 2020, residents can call (502) 528-3543 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday, and they will be assisted by call-takers who will input their answers to questions on a community survey, which has been available online since early this month.
The survey asks:
- What are the three most important qualities or skills you would like to see in the next police chief
- What are suggestions for improving police services; and
- What a new chief must accomplish immediately, and over the next 2-3 years.
Both the phone line and the online survey will be operational through Friday, July 3. Already, more than 8,000 people have completed the online version of the survey.
