Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Many of you have seen the news coverage regarding the illegal activity in our city last night. I am not speaking about the groups of people who protested peacefully regarding their desire for justice for Breonna Taylor. I am talking about the illegal mobs who threatened lives and property all over our beautiful city last night. Those that engaged in that activity are not interested in justice. They are interested in anarchy and destruction and this city needs to stop this now.
The Mayor has taken two actions that will go into effect tonight that I wanted to bring to your attention. The first is the National Guard has been called up. They are going to be supporting our existing LMPD and Kentucky State Police assets. The second is that the Mayor is instituting a dusk to dawn curfew starting the evening. The point is that if law abiding citizens are home, it isolates those that remain on the street who are committing crimes. This is all about trying to limit the movement on streets after dark so law enforcement have an easier time differentiating between law abiding citizens and criminals. I would urge everyone to do your best and stay home this evening after dark. Please keep in mind there are exceptions for people who work at night, etc.
Finally, I want to continue to voice my support for peaceful protest. We have had a tragedy hit our community in the death of Breonna Taylor. There are many people with legitimate concerns about the process that resulted in that and their peaceful protests should always be allowed. I support those peaceful protests wholeheartedly. What this city cannot tolerate is using that tragedy to justify lawlessness.
Please be safe…please stay home after dark tonight…please pray for our city and its wonderful citizens.
Humbly Yours,
Anthony Piagentini
