Budget and Reopening
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I feel, very much like most of you, like this is week 735 of the shutdown. If time flies when you are having fun, it crawls during a quarantine. I have a few updates this week. They include news about reopening, the ongoing budget committee meetings, and the tragic case of Breonna Taylor that has made national news now.
First, please continue to monitor the state’s healthy at work website for details on reopening. That website is located here: https://govstatus.egov.com/ky-healthy-at-work. Places of worship have reopened with several conditions largely due to a court order considering the ban unconstitutional. May 11th, Construction, Horse Racing, Manufacturing and Distribution, Office based businesses, Pet Grooming/Boarding, Photography, and Car Dealerships reopened. On May 18th, Government agencies can reopen. On May 20th, retail can reopen which is huge news for all the small business retailers in District 19. On May 22nd, Restaurants can reopen albeit at 33% capacity in their indoor space. And there are more businesses opening on May 25th through July.
This past week, Metro Council took a vote on an emergency ordinance to help our restaurants be able to open sustainably. Essentially, it altered parts of the land development code to allow restaurants to use more of their or public outdoor spaces so they can increase their capacity outdoor to allow for more customers.
