$25,000 will help families and others financially impacted in District 3
Louisville – Councilwoman Keisha Dorsey (D-3) is praising United Parcel Service’s generous $25,000 donation to the Shively Area Ministries (SAM). These critical dollars will help people who are struggling with the financial impacts of the COVID-19 virus.
“Many people are finding themselves in situations they have never been in as they wait for the economy to get back up and running. I applaud UPS for its generosity and its willingness to step up and be a helping hand to an organization that is no stranger to providing comfort and security to those in need,” said Dorsey. “This is a time where compassion and unity from all sectors of our city will help us get through this crisis.”
UPS is one of the largest employers in the Metro Louisville area. To date, the company has awarded around $447,000 in grants to help local nonprofits dealing with the impacts of COVID 19.
“Serving the communities where we live and work – not just by delivering packages and providing other customer solutions, but by also giving a helping hand to those in need – goes back to the company’s founding and continues today,” said Public Affairs and Community Relations Supervisor Justin Heckel.
The Shively Area Ministries is one of the 13 members of the Association of Community Ministries serving all of Louisville Metro.
“We are working with family after family who - - almost literally overnight - - found themselves in serious financial difficulties. These families have missed utility payments and rent or mortgage payments. The future of these families hangs in the balance. The level of debt that they suddenly found themselves in is beyond the limits of most of our programs, “said Gary Copeland, Executive Director of SAM. “This UPS grant will enable us to help stabilize families in ways that go beyond the scope of our normal programs. These are not normal times, and the UPS recognizes this. We are grateful for that understanding and for the capacity to help countless families in meaningful ways.”
