Do you own and occupy your primary residence (as of 1/1/2020)? You may qualify to exempt the first $39,300 of your home value from property taxes through the The Homestead Exemption. In the Urban Services District, this equals $527 cash in your pocket annually and, once approved, you are not required to reapply unless you move. Complete this one-page form and mail it, along with a copy of your driver’s license (or ID), to the PVA. You’ll get a letter back that looks like this. You'll be notified by a postcard if you qualify. Homeowners who are veterans of the United States Armed Forces and have a service connected disability, or civilians who have been determined to be totally and permanently disabled under the rules of the Social Security Administration or the Kentucky Retirement Systems, may also qualify for a homestead exemption. May 7 and 21 - Strawberry Fresh Stop MarketThe annual Strawberry Fresh Stop Markets demonstrate how communities that pull together, plan together and buy together can break down barriers to accessing local, farm-fresh food. Through New Roots, more than 250 families will pool SNAP Benefits and cash to qualify as volume strawberry purchasers from VanMeter Farms in Clarkson, Ky. While New Roots serves all, it primarily works with families with limited resources who would otherwise be unable to purchase local berries and other produce. “Pooling resources in this way makes local strawberries affordable and available to everyone,” said Ms. Gwendolyn Mitchell, New Roots Organizer and Shareholder. Berries can be picked up at New Roots via curbside delivery. Please pre-order your strawberries by calling New Roots at 509-6770 or emailing info@newroots.org or ordering online with a debit/credit card here for May 7 and here for May 21. All strawberries must be ordered before 9 PM on Monday May 4 for May 7 pick up and May 18 for May 21 pick up. SNAP users and those who would rather not use online ordering are welcome to please call the office to order. There will be a small selection of strawberries available for walk up buyers. However, strawberry supplies will be very limited so buyers are encouraged to pre-order. Free deliveries for older adults and others who are homebound. All of the strawberries are locally grown without chemical pesticides or herbicides by VanMeter Farms. “We find it very rewarding to partner with New Roots on their Strawberry Fresh Stop Markets. 2020 will be a fantastic season for our berries,” remarked farmer Danny VanMeter. “They are looking great and taste delicious.” New Roots is a local organization, which believes access to fresh food is a basic human right. It has helped to organize the Fresh Stop Markets. Information on the 2020 Fresh Stop Markets coming soon! 2020 Tentative interstate and state-maintained road mowing start dates

Property maintenance is the responsibility of the resident, from the middle of the street to the middle of the alleyIn Louisville Metro, it is the responsibility of the person living in a home to keep the front and rear of the property clean. This area extends from the middle of the street out front to the middle of any alleyways to the rear or side of the property. This applies to litter as well as plants and trees that could impede the alleyway or street. Inspections, Permits and Licenses (IPL) could cite and possibly impose a fine if you've got a lot of debris and plant overgrowth. Thank you for adhering to the local property maintenance codes and keeping a clean neighborhood. Crisis line for veterans and their familiesSome offices and VA hospitals offer a "Health Promotion Disease Prevention Program" that includes treatment methods including acupuncture, tai chi, and meditation instead of opioids, and they work with the Veterans Crisis Line (1-800-273-8255, Press 1) to provide support and treatment for PTSD and depression, the leading cause of suicide for veterans.
